XM owner from NZ saying Hi plus help needed with fog light!

Hi all I've joined this wonderful forum as I am the proud owner of a 1994 XM CT Turbo. I have owned several Citroen's including 3 original DS - my favourite being a one owner 1966 ID I picked up in the South Island of New Zealand from the 91 year old owner!

I find the XM is very similar to driving a DS though with a few more creature comforts plus more torque and speed (though I never did get to own a DS23i!)

I am looking for a passenger side fog light assembly (MK1). Talking to my mechanic Phil Cotter here in Auckland (who has helped me restore many Citroen's over the years) he says they are as rare as hen's teeth...however I just need the glass!! Not the whole assembly. I see there is a whole assembley on ebay from Italy at about 200 Euro, so once you add postage to New Zealand it's rather expensive.

Any leads would be appreciated.

Kind regards, Nathan

Welcome to the Forum Nathan and that looks like a nice very late series 1 car you have there! The fog-light you need will be of the earlier type and I am sure someone on here can help. With regards, Matthew T.

I have just noticed that it is only the fog light glass you need Nathan and I know I definitely have one spare. Just PM me your address and I will send you the item! With regards, Matthew T.

Hi Nathan

Front scuttle and boot spoiler confirm your XM is a Mk 1.
Front nosecone is Mk 2.
I cannot make out the bumper for sure but that looks possibly Mk2 as well.
Clear photo from the front would help.
Mk 1 and Mk 2 indicator/foglight assemblies are not interchangable without swapping the bumper as well.
It is just possible that the front end was damaged and repaired with Mk 2 parts.
Best make sure before you order anything to be sent to you.

John

Hi Nathan,

The car looks excellent, and was obviously cared for.
Intriguing colour - what is it? Champagne?
Do post some more photos (not least for the foglights) when you can.

The bumper is definitely S1 John from the narrower unpainted section and the S2 bumper also has a slight lip against the wheel arch! Some very late S1 cars were fitted with S2 nosecones I think. With regards, Matthew T.

Wow this looks like my old car - I sold it around 2 years ago when I got my current 1992 V6. Nice to see it ended up in the hands of an enthusiast.

If it is my old one it's a 1994 (produced 1993) Mk1.5. It should have a Mk1 bumper and nose cone however when I got it had the S2 nose cone. I believe it has had a new bumper and panel work since I sold it but it does still look like a S1 bumper. The colour is Sable Metallic (code ECZ I believe) - only used for one year and a rather rare colour.

It was originally a Telecom NZ company car and went private after that. I purchased it April 2012 and sold it around August 2015. When I purchased it the exterior was in rather poor condition (and unfortunately stayed that way during my ownership) however it was well serviced by a Citroen specialist here in Wellington. I sold it to a man in Levin who had owned several XMs was prepared to spend some money on panel work. He also put a set of 24v wheel on (it originally had steel wheels and the owner previous to me put S1 alloys on it).

https://imgur.com/a/pxugP - here is an album of photos mostly, from the original TradeMe sale. The first one is from when I sold it (with my V6 in back)

Unfortunately I can't help with the fog light glass - my passenger one is also damaged and repaired with a piece of flat glass but it has always passed a WOF.

I always slightly regretted selling that XM. The suspension and gearbox were exceptionally smooth and it was a nice car to drive (with a mint interior too, even the glovebox latch, strut and keypad cover all worked). However having two XMs was impractical and I do like driving my V6.

Jordan.

Looking at the photo closely, I think it's a Series 1 bumper and lamp unit, obviously the grille has been changed to a later Series2 unit as all Series 1 had the same grille.

Sable is a great colour for an XM, I'd love one in that colour.

Matthew.
I'm confused by your comment of Series 2 bumpers having a lip at the wheel arch. Where?

Anorak back on the peg...

At the bottom, you can see it in the photo above. You can easily tell mk2 fog lights, as the fog indicator are locations are swapped.
