The hatch CL issue is likely to be the servo is jammed. Often all it needs is removal and a sharp tap to free it off.
if it is jammed you will really struggle to unlock the lock and it may break the intermediate plastic lever.

The carbs are pretty simple twin downdraft units. Emission control will be in the form of auto choke, fuel cut off solenoid for over-run above 1,200 rpm.
Check the float height and needle valve, the throttle spindle for wear and vacuum leak, use carb leaner to clean out all passages, fit a new gasket kit.
I can't see a carb engine having a cat, so leaded petrol can be used.

I'm going to lube the linkages and see if it improves - actuator seems to work ok.

Some really good photos, Sam.
That's a whole lot of engine bay pipework!
She looks very tidy.
Do renew those OE battery clamps with some brass ones; likely to be well past their best, even for a petrol.

That is lovely, not real poverty spec though, it has the spoiler, Tacho, centre console and glovebox lock.

Looks really nice though.

Glovebox lock and centre console are options??? I thought XM was an executive car!!!
The photos are far more flattering than what it actually looks like, unfortunately...

Poverty spec alright.. Further omissions.. Radio controls on steering wheel.. Leccie front seats.. Lh display of car diagram replaced by a fit matrix information message display.. Varible timer for intermittent wipers..
Interesting the glove box catch looks to be on working order..

Fabric is fine until you attempt to clean someone else's god knows what stains which might have been there for decades... Yuck!!! I loved my leather seats on C5 & C6 and these days they have those fancy heated and cooled seats! But if I was to buy an executive car, I'd want fully loaded model. The reality is though, the more features you have the more likelihood stuff will go wrong, especially the Citroens!

Yes, radio control on wheel is handy (personally I prefer C5 style stalk control better) - I'd love to have a/c control on it as well.
Electric seats... hmmm only if it has memory function. My C5 had electric seats but no memory, what's the point???
The glove box catch work fine, but I had to replace the strut. A "spare" one came with the car, so I proceeded to replace it, only to find the replacement unit wasn't exactly the same... Same length but the lug at one end was too big, so I had to mod the lid end attach bracket and fit the strut upside down. Maybe that's why the lid goes boing and bounces a couple of times when I open the latch.

I love those late 80's gimmicky dash designs! (to look at - they would be horrible to live with) Digital this, digital that - voice warning system etc etc!
