New US owner of old XM from this forum.

Greetings from snowy and slushy Ohio.
I am the lucky owner of a ran down chassis number 5111:)
Got her at the scrap auction sale in Virginia.
Car is a bit sad now, but has a lot of potential and good bones. She will be hanging on the lift for a while now, while rust is being cut out and new meat welded on. Meanwhile I need some help from the experienced XM people across be pond.
Few issues that previous owner (who is in contact with me and seems like a nice man) mentioned here I took care of but many more going to be a learning experience for me. I do own two classic DS's and bunch of other interesting 4 wheeled stuff, so purchasing a garbage XM seemed like the right thing to do.
The most important step in restoration is already taken, chrome fender covers have been cut off and scrapped!

Welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't think there would be many XM's in your part of the world so nice to see one.

I ran them for 15 years or more as my work vehicle, mine were 2.1 manual diesel estates, I did well over 100 thousand miles in them, probably nearer 200,000 and liked them very much. I did all my own repairs and servicing which wasn't to difficult once you got to know them.

Rust was what eventually put an end to mine or I would probably still have one now.

Peter

Another Warm Welcome to the Forum and we have just had a light flurry of snow in Norfolk, UK! I run a fleet of early V6 XM as daily drives including one of the oldest in existence and I am not giving up yet! This is certainly the best place for advice and commaradarie and we look forward to hearing more about your car and offering assistance in the future. Based on the photograph that you attached the car is an early S2 V6-24 with lhd and Diravi, which is a good model to have! With regards, Matthew T.

Thank you gentlemen for the warm welcome.
It is an early 24V with fancy steering rack system.
Right now it is ridden with old car illnesses and a lot of delayed maintenance but overall it is a healthy beast.

Here is the list of current issues:

- I cannot locate upper and lower radiator hoses, these seem to be no longer produced, any help?
- There absolutely no response of the running engine to a throttle position sensor. Revving up has a bit of delay also.
- car occasionally would not start, just cranks and no fire, but if I connect battery charger and give it extra boost she seems to fire. Battery and terminals are in good shape, not sure if this is related to alarm system (which is disabled to code 0000) or some other wiring issues.

- I am looking for some trim and whole lot of parts for routine maintenance, what is the best source?

Thanks you!

I don't think that your ORGA number of 5111 can be correct for that car. The actual production date can be found from the VIN using the Citroen service web site (someone on here could probably look that up for you).

A series 2 XM with the 24V PRV engine is quite rare, especially in the UK, as there were none built with the steering wheel on the right.

It is a series 1 24V motor, those were made from late 90 on, so mine is a very early unit.
VIN V-F-7-Y3AL0000AL161-nine

I noticed it was an S1-v6-24. Engine no of FV33 0001326 makes it an early, pre-modified, unit, so check the cam followers and tappets to see if they have been modified. Gold cam followers, tappets with ceramic inserts in the head.

For non start check the relays on the front of the ECU box and the crank and cam sensor connectors, near the throttle body. Also check the ECU connector for splayed contacts and the ECU for pins retreated into the ECU. I've had all these issues.

Make a Blink Code Reader and read the codes.

The ECU only provides power to the coil and injectors once a crank signal is received.

It does have gold colored parts in the valve train.
I will check all the things you mentioned, going through wiring as we speak, inch by inch!

It looks like you have a later engine there and what is actually the year of the car? I originally saw the 24v badges and Monte Carlo wheels and assumed early S2, but I now realize it is a S1 with the alloys changed! Regards, Matthew T.
