100k km (62500 mi) - so just nicely run in, then. Choices, choices . . .

Was surprised to find our 2.5 needed cylinder head off about 10 years ago, with about the same mileage on the clock. Discovered it was the O-ring in the corner of the HG that had leaked. An engine-out job for just one tiny part.

Good luck with the purchase, Ferdinand.

Any rust free XM is worthy of consideration (at the right price).

The problem is, you will need space to store your French treasure.

Seeing all these cars is giving you a good idea of what to expect, condition wise.

I’m very choosy, and only want the best... Expect it to cost between £1500 - 2000 which is actually very cheap compared to cars for sale around Europe
Storage wont be a problem. I have a large garage where I keep most of my cars - and another place where I also have a few parked. Both places are dry and safe.

I’m surprised how many there are out there... that are kept dry... unfortunately many are never touched, started or being maintained in any way... Making it difficult and expensive for a furure owner.

Tada.... Today, I purchased a silver 08/12-99 2.5 Exclusive with only 102.877 km on the clock. Drivers seat needs replacement and there’s som minut issues that I’ll take Care of asnsoon as possible. Good thing is the engine sounds really well and hvad had a new cylinder head fitted only 75 km ago. Unfortunately the engine light is on and is does’nt pull as quickly as normally.

Check the air pressure sensor hose for splits and loose clamps.
Loosen and refit the electrical plug just in case of poor contact.
Sensor is top right 2nd photo just inside of the throttle pot.
For engine light read engine ECU with LEXIA.

That looks great.
Brilliant silver is a good colour for a series2 Exclusive.

Looking very tidy. Worth the search.
Keep an eye on that short loop of transparent fuel line (likely inserted to check for air in fuel; original fuel filter there but replaced) - doesn't look as if it has much in the way of a clip at the upper end. PVC hose also liable to go soft (or worse) in high under-bonnet temps. OK for diagnostic, but not for permanent running.

That fuel filter is a heated one and was factory fit for late 2.5TD's.
The squeeze bulb was also factory fit as that filter has no fuel hand pump fitted.
Engine block fuel heater is replaced with a cast alloy blank.

The late-type fuel filter in your photo is disconnected, and an aftermarket in-line one positioned next to it.
Possible that the late-type plastic filter became the source of an air leak.
