If they are a pair of female spade connectors each side, one insulated and one not, then they are the fog lamp wires.
They run from the indicator loom, but separate about 300mm from those connectors.

Refitted a few more things today and it looks like those 'spare' plugs are actually for the horns. Having wrongly assumed they were for fog lights I then spent ages searching for the horn feeds before I realised! It's a bit of a puzzle having not done this before and with someone else pulling it apart.

Looks like it only had a single horn originally, there was a spare offside one with the car so I've fitted that as well. Found a S2 headlight on ebay with better reflector but damaged glass, so will need to swap the lens over.

New radiator and replacement gearbox oil cooler now fitted (courtesy of Paul B-R) so about ready to replenish the LHM and bleed the brakes.

Also figured out the mysterious piece of broken plastic on the horn bracket was part of the headlight assembly!

Hopefully booking it in for an MOT soon...

A single Mixo horn always sounds a bit apologetic, but a High and Low pair is a different story!
Progress :)

How about the air horn like I had on the CX?

Sound great when blowing, but take a split second to start.
The twin tone horns on an Xm work well...not as loud as the ones on an old FIAT Tipo though. They were properly loud.

Good to hear it's coming together.

I suspect the lamp unit you purchased was one davetherave had for sale. Check out his parts for sale on this forum.

Air horns could definitely be a future upgrade!

Yes the lamp was from davetherave and should hopefully arrive later this week.

Remembered I also need to replace the high pressure line from pump to regulator - it doesn't leak but has been damaged and I don't want to chance it failing. Is it common to other 2 litre models?

Thanks Paul there's no need to look, it wouldn't be easy to post either without bending. I have a spare still attached to another regulator but it doesn't fit. Not sure what it came off though! Could be a manual petrol or a 2.1td.
