Morning all!
I've just bought a 96 xm break 2.5 in really solid condition with 118000 miles it's just the paint that let's it down so will be having a respray in the coming weeks. It was originally metallic burgundy and the previous owner sprayed it matt black. Should I go original or would maroon with a cream roof look the part?
Also I was wondering if any of you guys know how many breaks are left on the road here in the UK?
Thanks for allowing me to join the forum.... Senny skipton n. Yorks

If respraying, the original colour might help, if returns/door shuts/'hidden' body parts weren't also matt-blacked.
Macabre indeed! Could you post some photos?
Do you know anything about its history?

I'm sure we can come up with figures of how many left.
John (xmexclusive) here has vast experience with the estates, and lots of us have the very durable 2.5 and its manual box.
Check out the sills (double-compartmented inside) and the so-called jacking points for rust, before doing any repainting or protective waxing.

Welcome!

I remember that car, it was an interesting DIY "student" type rattle can paint job. I dooubt the door shuts were done. Did the owner give a reason for the paint job?

I would go back to the original Magenta, which is probably the best colour for an XM estate. It looks stunning in full sunshine with a set of wobbly web (Etoille) alloy wheels fitted.
