Different part numbers for the complete regulator shown in the diags above, though.
1st diag: 2.5 . . . 5274 15 - and listed for BX, XM, XMII
2nd diag: V6 ES9 . . . 5274 18 - and listed for Xan, XanII, XMII
Very long list of individual models which each was fitted to.
Won't begin to list here!

2.5td regulators are uniqe to 2.5tds as they were initially the only xm to have anti sink. Which uses a different regulator..

I'm confused - can I ask for some clarification here?

The diagrams Chris supplied specify part # 5274 15 for the 2.5 TD regulator, and 5274 18 for the V6. However a search for 527415 on eBay provides multiple hits, of which some appear to be regulators, while 527418 gets no hits on eBay???? Was it a typo on the parts diagram?

A further search on Google does get hits for 527418, so perhaps it is a real part number after all... Bart Ebben has both, and certainly doesn't treat them as being interchangeable.

Forget that idea - 527418 appears on eBay France - this appears to be a seller I need to bookmark!

They do appear to have separate applications, although externally seemingly identical.
The list is so long, you'd need to consult ServiceBox to get the whole list.

Go very easy round here.
Citroen changed thread pitch on 6.35 mm pipe fittings.
You can ruin threads in the casting as either type nut will start.

On some variants (such as the ES9 with automatic transmission), the plastic end with the low pressure return connection has the outlet at a different angle, and that is the only difference from other more common regulators of the same era. The plastic end caps can be swapped across fairly easily.

Did a 550km trip yesterday, from Armidale to Leura (in the Blue Mts west of Sydney). The leak is not serious, in that I've checked the reservoir level this morning and it doesn't need topping up, and the underside of the car doesn't look too bad. The problem is more the amount that drips while car is sitting.

I have a drip tray in the garage, which gradually accumulates bright green fluid - doesn't need emptying all that often. However recently, while the car was outside, my wife was doing something in the garage, and stepped backwards onto (into) the drip tray... So fixing the leak is a bit of a priority (maybe next week or so).

Here's a photo taken on the trip yesterday - no motorways, and we avoided A roads as much as possible. Picture was taken on the descent from the Liverpool Range. In the middle of nowhere, a traffic light. Like something out of NZ really - drainage apparently not properly constructed during a major reconstruction of this section of the road. Heavy rain last summer led to undermining and slips. No sign of any attempts to repair - the council have just erected barricades and put up a couple of sets of traffic lights.

Car ran very well, and has potential to be our long distance cruiser of choice. Beyond keeping on top of mechanical stuff, my ambitions for this car are

* improve the headlights
* make it quieter (sound deadening mat, & a quieter muffler)
* better stereo (all the speakers are shot for a start)
* window tinting
* parking sensors or reversing camera. Of course a new stereo could include a navigation system and reversing camera...

Cheers

Alec

Long-distance cruising is where the XM excels; just eats up the miles.
That LHM leak sounds pretty significant, if it's managing to fill a tray that needs emptying.
If it's all coming from the depressurising bolt, it should be fairly easy to rectify.

I'm surprised you say an Es9j needs soundproofing, they are normally very quiet.
Has the exhaust been changed, if so, deal with that before soundproofing.

That Lhm leak needs investigating. That bolt is pretty simple, a bolt, ball bearing and O ring.

I've never found the need for parking sensors due to the great all round vision in an Xm.

As said, Xm really excel on long journeys.

For the headlamps, you might be surprised how well just stripping, cleaning the bowls and polishing the deflector lens works.
