But not an electronic parking brake. They're the devil's work.
Along with dual-mass flywheels.
Agreed

Well, at least there wasn't an XM Utility (van) version - blanked-out rear side windows and no back seat.
Or was there?

Any luck with the VIN number for that one, Jaki?
I've got the ORGA, 5866

I also think XM's are about being as equiped as possible, no Hydractive, no 13th window, no rear electric windows, no door light and so on really pulls me off as well. Yes, sure, it's still an amazing car, but it feels like half of it is missing.
Still haven't taken any more pictures of that engine, but don't worry, soon I'll get them. Also, maybe, a 3rd XM is coming...
HOW???? Well this one is in such terrible condition as bodywork and engine that we found another XM, same engine, but far more extras that hasn't been started in like 10 years and with bad seats for pretty cheap. We might rebuild that one while we just fix the suspension on the current one and then sell it. Or keep one for parts, it will depend on how viable is to get the other XM running if we get it finally. Well, I'm saying "we", I mean "he" but its me who is dealing with all paperwork and stuff so, we

A van version! What a thing that would have been!

I'm on another forum where many members celebrate the simplicity of base models, and while I note the opinion of a friend from way back that 'electric windows are just another thing to go wrong'...

I
Like
Toys

Sunroofs. Leather. Aircon. Full electrics pack. Cruise. Heated seats. Heated mirrors. Heated washer jets. Folding door mirrors. Turbos. Sat nav. Trip computers. Compasses. Temperature gauges and displays. I want it all*.

I like stock but I'd happily upgrade my SED with heated seats (front AND back, if I could get them) and cruise control. And I've considered one of those mad security systems for another of my cars - one that does full remote window and sunroof control and remote starts would be nice. But I think that's a bridge too far for a car as complex as the XM. Imagine trying to fix a fault on one so equipped...

* But not an electronic parking brake. They're the devil's work.
Exactly, I LIKE TOYS IN MY CAR!!!
An XM missing some features is... wrong. I get not choosing the leather seats because cloth is less "temperature extreme" and is nicer to touch, but missing the rear electric windows, the radio buttons on the steering...
I have test driven that car (yes, with the suspension in that condition) and the engine response is terrible compared to my TCT, incredible they have the same engine but this one just has no turbo. Sure its nice to drive, but TCT is waaay better. I have to admit however, that lineal response of the naturally aspirated engine seems to suit better the XM's behavior.

RP of 5866 = 30 November 1992.
Did you manage to get the full 17-digit VIN number (VF7Y3.......) ?

The engine is the Bosch equipped 2.0 injection, which is nice enough to drive, but requires the driver to work harder and use plenty of right foot to make decent progress.

One Xm is possible, but two quickly becomes three...or more...

Right now, it prefers no right foot as it refuses to start and when it does, idles at 500rpm, only to stall if trying to rev it. Also, the coolant is now brown colored and a TON of oil is leaking from the top valev cover into cylinder 1 spark plug.... We have some work to get this one sorted I'm afraid.
