I know think the v6 has a sunroof so possibly an sei v6 but the other 2.0i doesnt have one

They will be rotten underneath.
i wonder if the no-sunroof car was an import. All UK supplied cars had a sunroof fitted at Citroen UK, prior to being sent to dealers.
It's a bit late now, but the 2.0i would have made a good doner project for my wrecked mandarin car. Could go the other way though...restore the V6...

Neils xm hasnt got a factory roof..its fitted by the dealer after import...

All UK spec Xm came with a sunroof as standard, until 1998.

The August 1989 UK XM brochure states "All XM's are fitted with an electrically operated tilt and slide glass sunroof".
The photo shows the "H" shaped internal light and control switch.
This information was published for the UK launch.
So standard sun roofs were being fitted in the French factory by this date.
That means that just the XM's already in the UK pre-launch needed sun roof adding.
These would have been delivered with the "V" shaped internal lights fitted.
I think Dieselman is right about all retro fit being done at the Slough factory.
The roof punching and extra wiring were not suitable one off dealer jobs.
The total of pre-production XM's already over here for launch would have been small.
To get the mod done quickly non standard sun roofs were used for the retofit.
