Done some more bits.. got the dash back together.. etc.. needed to hook the parking brake cable onto the pedal.. after releaving some slack on the equaliser under the car i got it on.. then.. as i went to press the pedal down.. bam.. pedal went to the floor with zero resistance and this fell on my foot..

So.. i bloody well hope its not dash out yet again to sort it out.. grrr... two steps forward.. one back..

I may be wrong Paul, but after my recent experience tinkering with parking brakes the part that you show looks very much like the pin which secures the foot pedal to cable pivot and is easily accessible and replaced! It was necessary for me to remove the pin to release the brake after my cable snapped. Regards, Matthew T.

Sadly mathew this is not true. it is a pin for the pedal to lever assey however its NOT the front pin which has a removable clip on the side but its the rear one that's right up the back out the way which is IMPOSSIBLE to get to.. nope. Sadly and incredably annoyingly and really to say its dash out and pedal box away from the bulk head.. the reasons. Cannot get to it from underneath as the clutch pedal is in the way and the pedal box left side structure is also there. And cannot get from the top because the heater duct tube for the drivers side vent is in the way.. cannot beleve this.. the car was almost ready. Interior all back together.. just neededing an exhaust clamp and final check over..

Beginnig to get to the point of being put off dooing any thing else ever again.

This WAS a slight pain to do but thankfully turned out ok to do... the idea of removing the foot pedal parking brake was initially daunting to me.. however after looking at one off a car it showed the pedal comes off after 3 bolts are removed plus a bracket..
20171005_163859.jpg
The pedal assey drops down while still attached to the release cable.. and clear enough to get at the upper pivot pin.. the pedal bracket needed two bolts accessed from inside the engine bay removing..
20171005_165708.jpg
The area the bolts live can be seen in the centre.. right of the bar.. access made by removing the drivers wheel and arch liner and then can be reached to..

Once they are removed the pedal bracket is loose and the pedal can be removed.. i simply lowered it..

Acces to the lever and cross bar link now possible.. so useing another matching pin and lock tab same as the lower one managed to get it up in place..

And there we are.. the pin is perfectly suitable as its used in the lower join..

Job done and reassemble.. a far relief that no dash or pedal box needed disturbing.. is found though after removing the clocks to see if access could be gained above..

So.. reassembly and reattachment of the cable now gives a parking brake within just 3 clicks of the pedal on the ratchet..

Small progress.. re fitted the air cleaner... added some more gear oil.. and invented a repair for the stupid bag on wiper motor issue which had a couple of small breaks in the bag..

I removed the bag.. then used some insulation tape on the inside and outside of the rips... then re fitted it back to the motor and then used a fairly thick silicone instant gasket to smear the tape and seal up any gaps..
20171013_113218.jpg
So that should see that sorted..

Refitted the scuttle and side trims.. still to do.. i need to make a lower bracket to support the two feed pipes for pas and suspension from engine to car .. the manual box is a bit different in this area so a bit of brain thought is needed.

Then get another exhaust bracket as the one i got from gsf which was meant to be correct was completely wrong and their returns policy is such a pita to go through for the sake of 4.50 its not worth it..

So almost there..

Exhaust clamp fitted.. car all back together.. petrol manual ecu fitted.. car just about ready.. did a pre mot look over at lights etc.. and the front washers werent working. The motor was fine... so arch liner out and washer pipe disconnected at each end to find a blockage of some form.. so rather then pull it out and not able to re thread it i decided on a different approch..
