Mk 1.5 1993 driver's seat belt pre-tensioner

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

This is what the forum is for, finding the parts and advise you need to get the job done, no need to feel embarrassed, these issues also highlight potential problems other peoplecan avoid.

Hi all,
I decided to refit the pretensioner as it is, I've taken a few pics of it so hopefully I can match it up, please keep me in mind if the chance of one comes up.
Thanks,
Chris

Hi all,
Got back on with the car jobs last week and have worked out a safe(ish!) method to re-tension the torsion bar.
I'll keep you posted once I've counted my fingers!
Chris

Hi all,
SUCCESS my method worked a treat! I've now got a re-tensioned unit, just got to get a mate to weld the back of a large rivet that I had to remove. I'll put up a few pics taken at the various stages.
I removed the belt socket at the large rivet just below it. I then had two large holes, one on the frame and the other on the moving arm. I attached two very sturdy angle brackets. I threaded through these a length of M10 10.9 HT studding along with washers and a couple of 30mm 8 rated long nuts (stud coupling nuts) and used lots of EP90 oil.
I then wound these out fully tensioning the torsion bar. It felt very strong and nothing started to flex so I could then reset the peg and lock the pendulum and peg with an old 3" 10 screw in the locking hole which will stay in until it's back on the car and then released the studding.
I'm quite chuffed that it all worked out well, all fingers intact!
Chris
