Hello (new Citroen owner)

Joined a little while ago, but just got round to posting here. Bought W887TBH in October- 2.0 turbo. My first Citroen- joining a Jaguar, Audi, Austin Healey and a VW. Technically it's my partner's car- but I'm having all the fun!

It has had 4 new tyres, 4 new spheres, all fluids and filters changed, an ABS sensor, front brake pads, new back box, wiper blades, headlamp bulbs, an assortment of dashboard bulbs, heater blower motor transistors, LH display repaired, parcel shelf repaired. And the fuel rail repaired after I managed to snap the outlet off. Apart from the tyres all done myself or with help from a colleague, so fortunately pretty cheap!

All this makes it sound like a heap, but underneath it's a very clean, straight car. A very small amount of surface rust on a couple of exposed seams which I've sorted, but otherwise perfect. Spare wheel carrier full of holes, of course.

Remaining jobs include getting the LH window working, getting the steering wheel radio controls working (worked when I got it, not now), sorting a leak through the LH D pillar into the boot, re-gassing the air con, and an assortment of bits of trim to sort out, and repairing/replacing front the damaged nose cone.

It's a lovely drive, and very comfortable. I do regular long runs across Europe- looking forward to doing some of them in this.

Hi,

For the D pillar leak, check the tailgate strut lower mounting and also the rear lamps for poor sealing. If not those, it's probably the sunroof drain. Last resorts would be the rear screen washer pipe, or tailgate seal.

For the complete wafty ride, it's usually worth fitting/regassing the accumulator and hydractive regulator spheres. A later, hydractive2 XM is a real glider.

The leak appears to be coming through the seam in the D pillar- I'll have a go at sealing it up when I get a dry day!

May have to have a look at the other spheres- ride seems good, but no better than my Jag (maybe that's an unfair starting point).

That is an impressive collection of local cars and you are lucky to have so many classic Citroens in the area! It does sound like the XM is in good hands and well done for all the hard graft. Regards, Matthew T.

You have pretty nice collection of photos with other Citroens, your eyes must be trained to hunt down other cars with double chevron on front

As a quick update the leak in the D pillar is now fixed, regulator spheres replaced, air con re-gassed (leaking according to the garage but still blowing cold a couple of weeks later) and passenger side window fixed. I've also sprayed the inside of the front wings and doors with cavity wax and cleaned, painted and rustproofed the (very grotty) inner bumper beam.

The driver's side window has stopped working however!

I note that you keep the cars in several different locations, judging by the different backgrounds. Must be a bit difficult keeping an eye on all of them.

I'm jealous of the CX's... thinking of getting one long-term. Have you had much trouble with any of them? You might like to start a new thread in answer to that question.
