Diamond cut wheels!

Post by MTXM » Wed Apr 25, 2018 9:48 am

I have noticed that very many cars nowadays have diamond-cut wheels that set me wondering about when this fashion first arose. The XM must be quite an early exponent I am guessing and the CX alloys also used the contrast between painted and exposed metal. Does anyone know any more about the history of the treatment and did the XM set the trend? Regards, Matthew T.

Might be wrong, but did the GSA and Visa have diamond cut alloys?
Clearly it started in the 70's.

Only trouble with diamond cut alloys... mainly new ones, are they look scabby quite quickly. But then they all seem to be huge wheels that scrape the curbs.

I'm still deciding on how to have my Italias restored.

Obviously not if the CX had them.
I am not sure if they are strictly diamond cut Will unless exposed alloy is enough!

Both cars had similar style wheels to the CX with painted and polished surfaces but are they actually diamond cut?

I have achieved quite a good result with hand painted Hammerite silver paint Russ if you saw my recent post!

Here are some photos of the XM wheel and other CX and GS and Visa wheels mentioned by Russ, but are the last three strictly diamond cut? Regards, Matthew T. PS. Sorry about the tiny photos due to the site upload issue!

The Jaguar 'Kent' wheels introduced with the XJ-S in 1975 were initially diamond cut, but after about 1980, the same wheels were actually painted with the silver colour.

That is interesting information Mike and including the replacement of the diamond cut finish with paint, which is what I have chosen to do with my XM! With regards, Matthew T.
