S2 V6 Auto Gear Lever Wanted

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

S2 V6 Auto Gear Lever Wanted

Post by markysimon » Thu Jul 05, 2018 4:48 pm

After being vandalised five years ago the damaged rubber outer on the auto gearlever handle has finally completely disintegrated. :( It appears from photos I've seen that it's the same as the ZX's, and also as per Peugeots fitted with the same 24-valve V6 lump. But whether it can simply be switched around from LHD to RHD is another matter. If anyone has one for sale or knows a possible source, I'd be hugely grateful. 8-)
Why don't we do it in the road?

I bought a new lever for my XM last year. I bought it on Yahoo Auctions in Japan. There is one for a RH drive on sale there now for 8300 yen. Might be a bit of a hassle to get it. You could try Citroen dealers in the UK, maybe you get lucky and there is still new/old stock somewhere. I discovered someone in The Netherlands crafted a new knob from wood!

Thanks Jan-Hendrik! I'm not sure what 8300 yen is in British money, but will have a look – have tried a few UK Citroen dealers who basically could barely stifle their laughter! The wooden replacement looks good, but that would be way beyond my talents! :P

Obviously an on-going need for these replacement levers. If anyone could send me (a complete but split) one, I'd be interested in looking at possibilities for creating new, including in wood and maybe cast GRP resin, suitably finished.

Oh dear... wish I'd started this thread before it finally gave up the ghost and you could've borrowed mine!

Is the ES9 auto gear change lever the same as the PRV 12v one Chris, in which case the ZX part might still be an option? With regards, Matthew T.

I believe that the same handle was used throughout XM production.

Have been having a look through auto gear lever knobs (handles, in this case) fitted to our cars.
All appear NFP.

All XM auto with either HP18 or HP20
LHD: handle is 2403 91
RHD: handle is 2403 93
These are listed for LHD and RHD, to put the thumb-release button on the correct side.
It's not obvious why the handle is not able to be switched around on its square shaft, as the button's function is simply to pull upward on a centrally located rod, which enables movement across all of the gate.
So we seem to have a handed arrangement for XM.

If your run a search on these part numbers, they are listed for XM only.

Xantia I auto
Fitted with 4HP14 auto box (eg 1.8i), the gear handle looks very similar, and is
2403 H9
and is, interestingly not listed differently for LHD/RHD.
It therefore appears to be a switchable unit.
HP20 boxed cars have a quite different shift knob.

Now, it gets interesting.
Put this part number (2403 H9) into Search Other Vehicles, and it comes up as fitted to
Xantia
Xantia II
XM
Xsara
ZX

Click on XM, and the fitting is confirmed,
in Hurricane Grey, under that part number
and in Black (for earlier RP numbers), as 90 313 006 XX (for Black).

My conclusion is that 2403 H9 universal LHD/RHD, is grey, NFP, and is the one fitted to a number of vehicles.

Perhaps someone would check this out on Parts, and confirm whether this knob/handle is indeed ok for XM.
Long time since I've handled (no pun intended) one of these, and I don't have access to one here.
Seems to open up two lines of action:
- obtain 2/h or NOS, as available
- re-create in a more durable material.

This post on Aussiefrogs: http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/citro% ... ost1497121" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; seems to suggest that a Peugeot item has different mounting holes, but can be made to fit

A few years ago my local main dealer supplied me with a ZX lever which fitted the XM, although it may be that the part cannot now be obtained. In response to Mike's comment, the ZX lever has an additional fixing hole from my memory that is unused on the XM and concealed when installed. With regards, Matthew T.
