Yorkshire spots!!

Post by MTXM » Thu Sep 06, 2018 7:08 pm

On a work trip to North Yorkshire I spotted a couple of unusual cars that I thought I would share. The Alfa is a late 75 but contemporary with the XM and the other car looks like a modern day 2CV!! Regards, Matthew T.

I just did some research on the Toyota WiLL vi, which it transpires was part of a unique marketing initiative during the early 2000's sold in tiny numbers and was never officially imported to the UK. As Russ points out, styling inspiration was taken from the Ami and also the Ford Anglia with the reverse rake rear screen. It also seems to have been one of the first retro designs, alongside the Figaro, Fiat 500, Mini and VW Beetle.
The Alfa is indeed very angular and does stand out from the crowd, but imho has aged rather less gracefully than the XM!
With regards,
Matthew T.

We missed out on some small cuties in the UK, like the splendid Renault Twingo*. Our fault for being RHD.

* and the extrordinary colours it was offered in: baby-poo green, squashed plum, manure brown, grim grey, faded yellow...
They must have been left-overs from the paint waste dump pot.

And here is one final spot from my 700 mile round trip, this time in the Village of Little Horwood near Milton Keynes, where the Chevron rally took place! The P1800 is apparently not that rare with around 160 examples in total and this one was clearly well used with liberal rust around the wheel arches and seat covers torn and faded. That's a P1800ES. Very nice.

I agree about the Alfa... not dated that well. It was always a slightly odd design in my opinion.

I'd love an original Twingo Chris. Brilliant little cars and so refreshing it see a car that doesn't look like it wants to mow you down... see all Audi's!

Good to see another Alfa 75, although that one has the wrong wheels on (from a mid-80s Alfetta GTV6)

If I’d known I would have got my 75 out, also on the wrong wheels lol

On a trip to Yorkshire a year or two back I saw what looked like a brand new VW Caravanette parked outside the Goathland hotel. or Aidensfield Arms as its better known, on closer inspection I realised it had been completely refurbished and resprayed, looked beautiful, any one else seen it?

Nice i have owned three 75's over the years in both V6 and twin spark guises... Fabulous cars :) glorious V6 soundtrack, although the twin spark had better balance... Alas out of my price range now
