New member - probably with loads of questions!

Post by chriscousins » Tue Oct 09, 2018 8:15 am

Hello all,
I bought a 91 XM 2.0 Prestige to save.

It’s just passed an MOT but no doubt will have plenty of issues/challenges for me to sort out.

This is my second XM, the first being a 24v some 20 years ago.

Please excuse the basic questions that will be posted over the next few weeks.....

Ask away.

As far as I know none of the contributing members here are Citroen trained mechanics.
I think all of us started on a learning curve with our first XM.
Forum moderation is as light touch as possible so searching for answers is not always easy.

Tell us about you XM including photos.
Tell us about you problems, ideally including photos.
It is open to all members to reply.
Most important tell us the results.
That item is our biggest problem as it is missing in many question threads.
Reporting of results, good or bad really helps other members put a value on any advice given.

Enjoy your second XM.

John

Welcome along. I currently have a 1991 v6 24v and a 93 2.1td auto.. I've had many others though..

The 24v v6 is a special one I think. There are a couple of other 24v owners on here too..

We look forward to any questions..

A '91 car is first series car with rotary lights switch and multipole earthing points.

This is the car in question. J294 JBP.

You need to get going with some cutting and welding gear to save that car, but otherwise it seems like a good project car.
iirc, the cills have been plated over plates already let in.

Interesting, i won’t ask how you knew!

I do 5-6 projects a year, know a brilliant welder and all the welding has been done. The MOT tester was happy anyway.

The car was advertised on a Facebook group i’m on and came with a £500 receipt for new cam belt and water pump. It drove very well on trade plates from down south to up north (approx 200 miles).

I think my mechanic must have been browsing in here for technical stuff - he’s managed to fix the ABS problem using a brand new Xantia ABS sensor with a little fettling!

The big decision now is....do I tax it from 1st November or leave it SORN’d until 1st March? All my other cars are SORN’d and tucked up for the winter now.

How does the XM cope with snow?

Beautifully!
Really sure-footed, and with plenty of weight over the front wheels.
Up on Int.High, it'll also get through moderate drifts.
Toasty heater, too ;)

Thanks - all my other cars are SORN’d from 31st Oct, except the Jeep Cherokees as nothing stops them.

The XM will be taxed from 1st Nov and possibly fitted with snow tyres.

The next village along from me is called Mountain, I’ll try
To get some good pics of the car in the snow over the winter.
