passenger wing came off today to invstigate the non working windscreen washers
(nether pump works although they both have power as it turns out so two new pumps needed)

plenty of muck in here and it was still wet despite its 10 years in the dry

all seems fine here

not quite as good as the body

this bit is pretty bad though

Went to start it again today and again no start same as a few weeks ago
Took all the plugs as it smelt possabily flooded plugs were wet so I think it was
put them in and tried to start again with the throttle all the way down it it coughed but again didn’t start

Has anyone any ideas I’m starting to wonder if it’s the engine speed sensor (152) far as I can tell the only engine position sensor in the car my wiring diagrams say two wires for it although there’s only one going in

My other thinking is injection air pressure sensor as I’ve realised (only today) the wires going into it are a bit mouse eaten

There’s a few numbered things on my diagrams which arnt in my parts list

also what is 434 canister electrovalve is the canister the thing in the drivers front wing which has something to do with fuel whats it’s function

If you are getting fuel in the cylinders the crank sensor is probably working as you won't get a signal to inject until the ecu sees the engine rotating, you could have dribbling injectors but given the time between start ups i find that unlikely.

The canister purge valves are in front of and under the throttle body, i think one is blue and the other black, the canister is connected to the vent of the fuel tank and captures fuel vapour which is then vented into the throttle body to be burnt under certain operating conditions so that petrol vapour is not vented to the atmosphere.

Have you got any fault codes on the ECU? maybe an ignition fault, coil, ignition amp, ignition relay, rotor arm, something in that sort of area?

Am I right in saying to see if there’s any faults on the ecu I need to make a blink reader
When the car is running I have no fault lights up

I did of corse test spark and have it on all 6 leads

A blink tester will show you the fault codes but if you can beg, borrow, steal or buy a Lexia you can look at some live data which can often be more telling in these situations than a possible non-existent fault code, having said that you could have a fault code that is not serious enough to bring the EML on.
Also be aware that this type of ecu will wipe all fault codes if the battery is disconnected.

If the plugs are wet and you have compression then it must be spark related, next time it wont start i would be tempted to unplug the injectors and then try starting it, if nothing happens after a few cranks with the throttle pegged open then shoot some easy start into the intake and try again, if it is still no go then you most definitely have an ignition problem and need to look at that side of things again.

So I realised the spark probly wasn’t as strong as it should be cue disasembily of dizzy clean in there and rebuild

Better spark but still no go will pull all the plugs out again tomorrow (or today it’s 2am) but first I need sleep

Just spent another hour on it but still won’t go

All the plugs out and spun it over without putting the code in so wasn’t injecting fuel (I assume) then tried with the plugs back in still nothing

Another thing of note I should have said before is about half the time when I let go of the key it kind of makes a puff/punt sound and seems to try to run in reverse

I’ve not yet tried with easy start etc

What a pain moving house tomorrow....

Timing gone awry? A puff/pant suggests that there is fuel in a cylinder being ignited, but maybe at the wrong time.

I doubt very much the valve timing has moved, ignition timing won't be out as that's Ecu controlled and injection is not sequential so I would guess the HT leads are fitted incorrectly?

Looked through my books can’t see any way to adjust ignition timing and as dean said seems it’s all on the ecu

Checked HT leads they’re in the right place
