Steering Rack Inner End

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Steering Rack Inner End

Post by ul9601 » Tue Jan 22, 2019 9:56 pm

Hi all,
I have a sloppy one and I has a quick look on GSF and Eurocarparts and not sure if they have the stuff I want.
My mechanic gave me a quote for one ex-Europe for GBP 50 including shipping, 2 weeks lead time. Labour is around an hour.
Where do you guys source parts in general?
Cheers
Sam

I guess it is the track rod inner ball joint that you are referring to and I would check out ebay. I could probably help with a s/h part if required. With regards, Matthew T.

Hi Matthew,
Thanks - I'm a bit away from where you are (NZ) so I think might as well buy brand new as shipping would be on par with the actual part!
Are there some trusty worthy e-bay vendors / manufacturers you guys use or are they all pretty reasonable?
Cheers

Mr auto usually gives a fair idea of availability and price of parts in Europe, e.g. https://www.mister-auto.com/biellette-d ... _g284.html I have never checked whether they will ship to nz. Recently I have got a couple of Peugeot parts through http://speed.co.nz , who seem quite helpful.

You can usually take the inner rod ball joint apart and remove a shim to get acceptable. I have done that on a previous xm.

Thanks Xantia_v6 - they are around half the price quoted but that's a typical NZ part markup rip-off...

It's pretty sloppy - I reckon around 1/4" play, I don't even know if that's possible but felt that way...

XM's have used two different sizes.
The difference is in the diameter of the track rod end to inner rod thread size.
So the inner rod and the rod end must have matching size threads.
Early type use M14, later ones M16.
The thread sizes at the ram and at the hub are identical for both types.
So as long as the inner rod and rod end fit together M14 type or M16 type can be fitted to any XM.
