Trip to Devon coming up this weekend round and down by Porlock 6 1/2 hour drive... Thinking of taking the Big Brie (Xm) rather than my Saab 9-5... Big Brie is mucho comfortable in comparison but is far heavier and if she breaks down, although i have doubts she will ... Am i being sensible ? 1 in 4 hills twisty turny lanes??? thoughts people

The pipe is dripping about once every 5 seconds I am sure a dose of radweld will cure it for now until I find a more permanent cure. Matthew is coming over Friday and will take a look.... Fingers crossed

This is a 2.1 TD and I have had couple in the past with varying reliability... I can't see the point of having a car and not being able to use it

You have the best model IMHO, I covered probably in excess of 300,000 miles in mine. All of mine had the Bosch mechanical fuel pump which are pretty bombproof, electronic ones are OK but they can go wrong.

The most problems I had were with rusted hydraulic pipes but if you check them periodically and apply some grease if you see any rust, that helps a lot. The one from the pump to the accumulator sphere can fail if the sphere is flat, listen to how often the regulator clicks, every few seconds+ duff sphere, 30 seconds or more OK.

I did probably in excess of 300,000 miles in the 15 years I ran mine and they were generally very reliable. I would probably still be running them now if they were as cheap and available as the were 20 years ago.

Thanks Peter, as i live near Mathew (Norfolk) who has 6 V6 ones i believe he has been over and replaced and re gassed all of the spheres for me and has said the car is a good one... My problem is being disabled i can't do the work myself (I am probably daft having such a car truth be known) but my first was a 2.1 turbo petrol about 16 years ago, had one more after that then not seen any for ages... This one came up out of the blue and i couldn't resist getting it such a great looking car in my eyes...

Well done for being able to find one. I think the best thing about it apart from the comfort was the fuel consumption, we used to regularly get 50 mpg+ on our trips to Scotland and an average of over 40 mpg. I do drive quite gently though, rarely over 60 mph or 2000 rpm so unless yours is an auto you should do well.

Radweld is a very bad idea in a 2.1 they have rather small waterways.

They love a long drive though. I did 930 miles in mine last weekend.

Mine is an auto although i have seen just over 40 mpg taking it easy
