Mark One cars, had 3 trim levels. I, Si, and SEi... (in petrol guise) or D, Sd, and SED for Petrol...

Were as in Series 2 cars, there was SX, VSX and Exclusive.

I personally am i BIG fan of the later Series 1 cars, known as S1.5 cars.. Series one and a Half... Series one and a half cars also have a Higher Trim level, in my humble opinion... Series 1.5 cars, ALWAYS: will have a working Dot matrix display, Less likely to have suspension issues, more likly to have leather, have a much more styleish dashboard, and rear spoiler.. in a DERV, a Turbo Boost guage, which I quite like, Bosch Mechanical Fuel system, though early S2 cars had this too.

A small, but picky selection of things I prefer on a S1.5 car... There will be a few who wont agree with me, but we all have our preference.

The S1.5 was as the car was concived, but by 1993 to 1994 had gained the Bolted earths, so a slightly more reliable electrical system was in use.

WHAT EVER XM you buy, new or old, EXPECT to need to do work on it.. At the end of the day, its mechanical condition thats important over colour or spec..

I would forget the personal reg, and not be limiting my choice of car. I think you want a series 1 ex-em. You have bought the series 1 wheel trims, and you are looking for a single spoke wheel.

i plan on putting the trims on whatever xm i buy :) i like the single spoke steering wheel but it wont fit a series 2 :| so thats why i asked about series 1.5 that way i could probably get the wheel to fit. all the xm i have seen for sale have been series 2.

its a pity that youre series one is a manual as thats a nice car, :D

In my view there is no reliability differences between MK1 and 2 cars. MK2's got air bags, passenger ones on some models so you have a glove box you could bearly get a pair of gloves in, side impact bars so its a pain to get at the window mechs and a boring interior.
Earth wise, the underbonnet earths were the trouble, it takes half an hour to change them to ring connector bolt on types so its not something i would even think about when buying another XM.
It does seem to me you want a MK1.5 from your wheel trim steering wheel choices too.

Thats one of the best things about it!

My daily runner is an auto. So I'm not anti-auto.

I'm with Dean on the reliability fronts, from my experience, both series 1 and 2 are as reliable as each other. The only series 2 features I would like on my series 1 is the better passengers side "door" mirror, and the better central locking plips.

My series 1 car has the original earthing blocks, and they're fine. I want to leave them the way they are, it will be one of the few XMs with them still intact!

Good Lord. Somebody else who had the exact same idea as me! My G plated 89 vintage v6
in platinum is as it was sold new and it all works perfectly!! I'd feel like I was painting a Tv
aerial on the Barn in Constable's Haywain picture; nobody else would probably notice but I'd
fell like I'd just spoiled something special, unique even. In 20+ years time there'll be much
bouncing of gums about the infamous poor earths and I'd bet not even a picture of said design
would even illustrate Citroen's grand idea unless two blokes with a series 1 can still drive such
a car!

Hi ex-em and Dean

This could be a tall order to for fill, because albeit this private plate you wish to put on to your potential XM purchase you have stated its actually an 'M' reg. of some significance (I presume that's its a prefix rather than a suffix which the following comments/rules effect).
BTW was it by any chance the plate off that 2.5 TD Exclusive in Metallic Green which had 'M1 XMD' on it ?
(As I could tell you a little story about that car) !

As a prefix 'M' registration was initially for vehicles registered from August 1994 to July 1995 :!:

The DVLA RULES do NOT allow the transfer of a registration number/plate to a vehicle to make them 'Appear' younger than they actually are:-
DVLA wrote:
Are there any restrictions to the year of registration number I can choose?

You can make your vehicle look as old as you wish but you can not make it look newer than it actually is i.e. You cannot put a Y registration number on a T registered vehicle but you could choose any prefix from an A to a T.
Therefore the last of S1.5 XM's were on a 'L' registration and that S2 came out in June 1994, IIRC I've only seen one S2 XM on a 'L' reg./plate I've never seen a S1.5 on a prefix 'M' reg./plate !

So I'm sorry if I've put that plan to an end

Unless anyone has or seen an S1.5 XM sporting a prefix 'M' reg./plate ?

XMX :D

Go on XMX, I'd love to hear more about that bizarre car that amused us so much a while ago on ebay!

Mind, crazy shit does happen with cars being registered out of the usual parameters!
Pal of mine bought that V registred Xantia V6 which at best is still a 1997 car!!

Mind, you'll have to hunt high and low to find a car that fits the older s1.5 young
enough for that M plate!!
