Cleaning.

Post by Davemc » Tue Jul 16, 2019 2:09 pm

Afternoon everyone. I’m new here having just bought the well known KBAN :-)

I haven’t washed my own cars for years as they’ve been new things that I haven’t really cared for however I don’t want to be taking the XM to the car wash, I want to do it myself.
Just wondering what products people are using to keep on top of their cars.
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

I could talk about cleaning for hours as its one service I offer at work.
If you don't like cleaning I would recommend having it ceramic coated professionally.
If you do a good machine polish and wax would be the way I'd go.
This is me https://www.facebook.com/InnovateAutomotive/ if you want to look at my citroens, the silver Xm is ceramic coated.

I don’t mind cleaning, I’d like to start doing it as I don’t trust a car wash, was just wondering what people were using

Ours has always been carwashed, with periodic handjob with Mer.
Never any damage, so long as roof aerial is removed, and mirrors swung in.

Hose, bucket, car wash and wax detergent, microfibre wash mitt.
All automated car washes inflict some damage at each wash and can damage trims and attachments. They also fail to clean very well.

Car washes are horrendous machines. I've had to correct the damage they inflict many times.
Cheap hand car washes are nearly as bad often using chemicals that shouldn't go near a car.
I normally do a full decontamination, clay bar polish and wax when I get a new car.
After that it's easy to maintain with snow foam, two bucket wash and spray detailer to top up the wax.
