I understand that I'm late to the party but that's my own fault for keeping my distance. Keep me in the loop regarding the green car. With both mine now being all but finished I'd love to get stuck into this . . . starting with that roof.

What are the state of the sills on the silver one? Is the outline of them complete?

Rust is not the problem as long as they have the general form and structure. I'd be interested in both sides if they conform to this.

Morning All,

Time to pick up the thread after 18mths!

Here is the story of what happened to the Emerald Green 24v that Sageman and MTXM found.

It was offered to my good friend Adie Pease (DS guru) and his cut throat approach was to scrap the car and use the engine in one of his Frankenstein DS projects (He has already put SM running gear into a DS.)

Being an XM fan since their launch in the UK at the Earls Court motor show and owning my own 2.0lt black S1 Auto, I told Adie that this would a total crime!!

Regarding the motor show I clearly remember sitting in an XM and chatting to one of the lovely girls dressed in their pretty Citroen outfits... I was very flattered being only 14 at the time, as you can imagine. I remembered that she was studying at a London Art College and thought maybe I should study art instead of pursuing a career in engineering!

So I ended up with it!!

I got in touch with MTXM and Sageman and brokered a suitable deal. Sageman brought the car round to my house on the 26th July 2020.
The journey for Sageman, leading up to the delivery of the XM to my house was fraught with issues, poor chap. His fuel pump failed, so the one in the 24v was stripped out and commandeered so that he could continue his journey! Then his neighbours complained about the car being front of his house. Then the night of the final journey to mine trailer board fell off sparking along the road alerting the police who told him to stop immediately, I came out to help him continue the journey by following him closely, but then the trailer folded up scuffing the trailer wheels and so the journey went on.... Sagemans perseverance was fantastic and I cannot thank him enough for his help, I hope he doesn't mind me mentioning these anecdotes but I was totally in awe of his tenacity that night!
We had plenty of fun into the wee small hours manoeuvring the totally deflated XM into my makeshift garage and swapped notes on Reliant Kittens (I have a steam powered one.)

The next day was time to assess the old girl....

Sageman was probably past the point of no return and had to get that Xm off his trailer, the Police were lying in wait, tasers drawn, and if he made it through that the neighbours had formed a lynch mob, having erected a wicker man.

I note from earlier in this thread, there is a query over whether this car has an upgraded, or replacement, engine.
If the engine has been replaced it would be worth checking that was recorded, as if not and the V5 was ever to be rescinded, then the car later put back on the road, it would attract a Q plate.

Why would an engine change attract a Q Plate ?

IF the car is declared scrapped and the V5 and registration number taken out of circulation by DVLA, then one wishes to re-register the car, DVLA will want proof the car is the same vehicle, as was previously registered with them.

If the Vin, Engine, or gearbox numbers don't match their records, Dvla will declare it a kit car, attracting a Q plate.

When SORN had to be declared anually, a car taken off the road due to failure, might be declared scrapped to save annual declaration.
This is now less likely to happen as one no longer has to declare SORN on an annual basis so are less likely to declare it scrapped, but a Cat S write off would place the car in that position, as the insuracne company make the declaration and Dvla take the registration number out of circulation.

Your car is declared SORN and as such the registration number is in circulation, so nothing to worry about.
If your car has already had an undocumented engine swap, declare the new engine number to Dvla as a safeguard.

Any car other than insurance Cat A, or B, can be put back on the road, even one that has crossed the weighbridge and been declared scrapped...but if it can't be proven to be all the same car, it will attract a Q plate.

I do not think and engine change would be regarded as a "different car".....just add the notification of a like-4-like change when re-applying for a new V5 ?....

You have to apply to re-register the car.

As well as the Vin you will be asked for other serialised numbers for the engine and gearbox.
If those numbers match you will receive the new V5 with the same registration number as previously issued, if not the car will have to have an inspection to prove it is the same car, or has used major components from another one of similar age, at which point it will be awarded a registration number based on the newest parts.
You need to have proof of the car the major components came from.
How would you prove the suspension and steering are from the original car?

If the car doesn't meet the criteria it will be awarded a Q plate, as a rebuilt car with parts from multiple sources.

It's easier to save the aggro and declare any serialised component swaps while the car has a current V5 and registration number.
