sunroof seal

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I’ve just replaced my roof aerial base with a genuine part (656110) and noticed that there is no rubber seal. However the fit is very snug and seems to seal nicely. There’s apparently no seal on these aerial bases? I need to strip my sunroof too but that’s a job for the summer.

Suggest you use plumbers mate around the base of the aerial to stop water.

Is that any better than silicon sealant? Is the aerial a known source of leaks? Seems odd that there is no seal, even looking on service box.

Aerial base is a common leak. Polyurethane adhesive (or liquid gasket) will be better than silicone sealant, as it will resist swivelling/movement.
PU adhesive can be had in most builders'/hardware shops, in the usual cartridges - black/white/grey/brown/clear.
Use petrol to clean off any surplus.

Hi just to let people know did have a fairly good match from Bristol sunroofs you have to bond it in but in my case Iwould have to have done that anyway because the state of the metal gully the code on the sample was LWB but they will send out sample so you can try it for yourself

I did the same with a genuine Citroen seal, using Henkel black polyurethane adhesive to overcome a very slightly rusty/lumpy lip, and keep the seal in weatherproof contact with the glass.

Have you still got a piece of the Bristol seal you could post a photo of the cross-section of? Could be useful for others.

The front sunroof drains are more than a little awkward. Looking at a removed sunroof the drain runs through the covered channel that the sunroof screw cable runs in and forward to another open section which has the actual drain tube attached to. Not easy to clean out that part if it has a build up of grot in it without dropping the sunroof down. Rear tubes look easier to clean out and easy to access the outlet end of the tubing through the boot. I can feel a how to beckoning but struggling for time.
