Right hand display

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Right hand display

Post by Kitsamus » Sat Mar 14, 2020 5:36 pm

I'm after a right hand display for my MK2 XM, the LCD has bled and is not fixable.
Does anyone have one going spare?

I don't have one, but be advised, the series-1 and series-2 R/h displays are the same, which may help you obtain one.

Bleed is usually associated with the LH (matrix display).
Can you post a photo of your RH one?

Which type of RH display?
Simple small screen type or large screen type with fuel usage.
The fixings are the same but the holes in the dash front are different sizes.
If you have simple version your car will not have fuel usage wiring or ECU signal so you cannot upgrade.
I repaired a load a while ago (mostly fuel usage) but they are away in store.

Looking at the O/p's sig. denotes the car to be a '95 21.td, so it will have mechanical fuel injection and a basic R/h display.

If indeed the LCD has bled, as opposed to the outer green glass delaminating, then any clock/temp display from an appropriate age Peugeot or Citroen would do. Just swap the glass over to give the green tint, as opposed to orange.

I suspect the outer glass will have failed, rather than the LCD bleeding.

On closer inspection it looks like it is the glass that has delaminated. Anyone know a fix?

The one I have just taken to bits has no green outer glass.
I am certain the same construction was used for these throughout the XM production run.
As stated above the design dates from much earlier PSA cars.
The green display colour comes from a separate sheet of green plastic sheet behind the LCD.
The LCD display is made up of glued glass sheets with spacer for the LCD liquid film.
The LCD contacts strip is glued to the inside rear of the front part of the LCD glass.
The contact strip glue used is coloured green and gives that area that area of glass a localised green sheen.
It is not a green glass faceplate nor does it separate from the LCD display.
The only mode of failure on these components is bleeding of the LCD display which is not repairable.
My beyond repair box has a good number of these bleed failure displays.
Plenty of spare electronics, cases, buttons etc though, plus a Pug orange one with a green sticker which should mean it tested good.
Cannot find the box of repaired ones so probably in the spares store.
Doubt I will risk going there to search before I go into lock down here at home.

Rarely if ever seen a lhd bleed. Mk. 1 lh displays are bomb proof and never fail.. Mk. 2 lh displays aren't compatable with Mk. 1s and they loose pixels from poor ribbon quality..

Rh displays with trip computer and larger display area also rarely bleed but the basic clock and temp displays are very poor..
