Oh right I am sorry Paul and I was beginning to think that might be the case! The car has certainly gone to a good home and that is great news!!

When this damn virus buggers off I might get 5 minutes to have a proper look see.

Got to get the front end off first to change the starter and get her running. Ten minute job on my 2.0, strip half the car down on a 3.0  Then the front end may as well stay off.

Then the fun bit  strip the rear end underneath of everything, take it back to bare metal and see what good stuff there actually is. Then onto the main floor area and do the same. This is why I want the sills and outriggers from that silver scrapper Matthew ;) Intention being to have the underside done before the cold weather kicks in.

Hopefully my early welding efforts are OK. But that rear box repairs on the subframe were an early in welding experience effort.. When I gave her the hammer tap end of last year they sounded OK..

Technically, as long as you are working, and alone, couldn't you work on the car now?
You could work on it with the Wife...but then that would negate the purpose of going out to work on the car...

Certainly, a V6-24 is more challenging to work on than a 2.0i, but in some respects, less so than any turbodiesel...welding near the fuel tank excepted.. ;)

I prefer to work on my own, whether that be on the cars or my proper job, and this time of year should be my quiet time when I can get things done, but this damn virus means I'm rushed off my feet with work.

Yesterday was the day the engine and box was supposed to come out but I finished later than planned and they were surprisingly busy. Yup, 11 weeks since I got the car and I still haven't got the engine out, that's how much work I've had.

Instead I started dismantling. Hydraulic pump and alternator easy, starter motor not bad, air con compressor refused point blank. Seems like the studs are seized in the alloy. Nuts on front manifold came off except one - second one in from the left on the bottom. Can't get a socket or spanner on it because of the heat shield. How do you get at that specific nut? Gearbox has one stud on the bottom which is rounded. That's going to be fun. Hockey sticks on the os driveshaft will not move. Valve body studs seized and the metal holder is very weak. Control arms seized in and it's probably easier to replace the track rods as a complete unit.

Body wise the inner wings are solid, with the strut mounts being excellent, but the wheel arches are shot. All the mounting points for the wings will need replacing. May also be prudent to remove the front structure that the radiator sits on as it's rotten.

Two years looks like wishful thinking atm!

Front structure the radiator sits on is part of the front subframe. It's a full size O shaped frame that goes right round the engine bay..

Wouldn't you be better to haul the complete lump out complete. Access to all fastenings would then improve hugely.
