Another XM says hi from Spain!!!

Post by Jaki1122 » Wed May 20, 2020 1:43 am

Hello everyone! I'm from Spain and finally I've got myself what's been a lifelong dream, a hydroneumatic Citroen, an XM no less!
Mine is grey, from 1994 and it has the petrol 2.0 Turbo CT engine with 141hp (or 150, depending on who you ask). It needs som fixes here and there but overall is in magnificent condition. Yes, about half of the wiring appears to have been repaired at some point, but almost no problems there, only a bunch of bulbs burned out. I'm restoring it at the moment, trying my best to let it in perfect condition!

Congratulations from another recent new member (also not in GB).

I had a Xantia Turbo CT - loved that motor (in fact the whole car)!

I admire your courage - my XM is one of the last sold in Australia, and is also in good condition (apart from some oil leaks). However I would expect your older car to need more fixing, just because it's older.

Re. the Orga/RP number - this is a number that (translated) gives the day of manufacture of your car. I believe for your model it should be on the LHS A-pillar. Open your left hand door, and look on the exposed frame for a stencilled 4-digit number. Alternatively post your VIN and someone will look up the ORGA for you.

Cheers
Alec

I would expect a '94 car in LHD will be an early Series 2 car, which from a reliability point of view should be good.
Obviously, the car will be rust free...

It would be worth fitting Hydractive electrovalve protection diodes into the loom, as the ones on the valves eventually burn out leading to spurious operation, or Ecu output transistor failure.
See the thread on the circuit diagram project for the ones for your car.

Check the rubber of the front suspension strut tops for any signs of tearing or delamination, as cars from warmer climes seem to suffer more in this respect.
The wheels need to hang to check the underside properly.

The ride and handling of a properly working Hydractive 2 Xm is incredibly good, so worth ensuring it is right.

Hi and another welcome!
Whereabouts in Spain are you?
Do post some photos of the car, and your VIN or ORGA/RP number, when you can.
Has the car always been in Spain?

Yes, this car has always been in Spain, apparently it was first purchased in Madrid, and then moved to Malaga. Now I've taken it with me to Valencia.

Hi, happy to be here 😊.
I'm still not sure my thing is courage but more like crazyness and a bit of ignorance haha.
My ORGA number seems to be 5909. On the outside at least, it's an S1. If underneath is an S2, I don't know (yet)

That's it! First one I've seen (on the late cars such as mine it's just on a sticker on the RH A pillar).

Your car's build date is January 12, 1993.

Check this thread - it confirms that your car is definitely Series I, and was built less than 1 month before the introduction of Hydractive II.

5909 = 12 January 1993.
Cars could hang around for a good while between leaving the factory and first registration.
Courage, craziness and a bit of ignorance is a petty fair starting point for XM ownership. You're in good company!
And not a million miles away from here...
