Intention was always to lift the lot out in one go. It was purely because it couldn't be done, for the reasons I've explained, that I chose to strip some parts from it. And yet the gearbox stud and the manifold nut will be no easier out of the car than in it.

The bolts for the ac compressor are stuck solid. The Allen key and nut both get good purchase but refuse to budge. There will be more options when the engine is out.

Steel is solid but the rubbers are shot

If sending to Elastomer for refurb, an idea to remove the tinplate protection cover (a single cut at the back will release it).
Can then be refitted when the re-rubbered units come back.
Avoids having the steel skirt shortened.

Check the number of dimples fixing the two metal halves of the head centre section together.
From the shape of the top casting those heads look to be the early car 4 dimple heads to me.
Citroen changed to a 10 dimple connection due to regular sudden failure.

I have some 4 dimple units, which are still solidly attached, but if concerned, a solution is to drill through the casting circumference into the inner core, and add studs, or bolts.
It's a shame they weren't made to be able to be separated.

It's a stainless braid round the flexi section..
