That is just the flitch panel is a bit bent.

Measure from the A pillar to each, opposite side across the engine bay and diagonally from each front subframe mounting, as well as each side from the base of the A pillar.
That will guarantee the dimensions are correct in three planes.

The damage is the panel has been pushed rearwards at the front.
It's not a strong panel and after attaching clamps, or welding on some pulling blocks, would probably pull/slide hammer out, quite easily.
Attach a loop of chain and with a heavy bar in the loop, snatch it forwards by hand, alternatively find something solid to anchor to and pull it with a winch.

For vertical tension chain the chassis rail to the bottom of the engine crane ram and the upper part to the upper part of the ram, it should easily pull that metal straight.
Dolly it back into shape while it is under tension.

Managed to square the inner wing up and the panel fit is much better. I didn't have any way of pulling it forward but dressed it back upwards and inwards so it's near enough for now. Probably still 6mm or so too far back but there's enough tolerance to allow for this.

Barring any more disasters the MOT is booked for this Wednesday and I'm working through the final few jobs, mostly around the windscreen area.

I'll be replacing the bottom rivet with a self tapper (x2) but what is the threaded insert for? On the nearside it has an odd bolt in but there is nothing in the offside. Can't see anything it relates to other than to maintain panel gap unless I'm missing a bit?

Early cars had that scuttle panel riveted on, as said, that became a pair of screws into nylon inserts.
The spare insert is for a screw which is used as a position setting.

Scuttle trim now screwed into position and the 2 end pieces fitted with a dollop of sealant for good measure.

Whilst looking for photos of the damaged pump - regulator pipe I came across the website http://www.ckc.dk/modeles/XM/?fr, who actually had a new one in stock. Price including Danish tax and delivery was just over £30, so even if I get hit with import duty it's not bad.

Counting down the hours until the MOT now - tomorrow will be the first time it has been on the road since 2001! It hasn't even been out for a quick test run round the back lanes late at night when there isn't much traffic around :)

That's a real find, Jon.
Aside from the parts, each of the little document thumbnails will open up the complete document PDF.
In French, but still useful, and Foxit pdf or Google translate will cope with complete pdf's these days.

Our S2 trim ends are also secured with a dob or two of silicone sealant, as parts of the original clips/fixings got broken on removal.

There is also on some a screw hole that correspondes to a matched hole on the scuttle trim. The screw hole faces the door.. Ie towards rear of the car.. Is accessed by opening the door and going through the open door frame and A pillar post..

I've got those holes Paul but it was getting late last night and I was struggling to reach them.

Looks like a few of those documents are in English too Chris, including scans of the parts microfiches.
