Paul, those figures you quote for lights, HRW, tyre-pump etc etc make no sense, if they're being supplied from a well-charged battery.
I suspect your DMM might be either pooped (on Amps range), or - as Will says - its battery going.
Test it by supplying (off the car) a 5W bulb or a 21W bulb, which should draw approx 0.42A and 1.75A respectively from a known 12v source. A 55W headlight buld should pull approx 4.58A, but that could be a stiff test for some DMM's, and should only be done for 10-15secs max, for the reason below...
DMM's easily get their higher current ranges 'cooked' by mild abuse, when the internal series resistance gets heated up without actually blowing the internal fuse. Also worth checking that internal fuse (and its holder), as, if oxidised, it will affect current readings. All should show up with the test above.

Re: M reg 1995 2.1td autobox Swap
How can a bulb give me a current draw reading.....?
I e since put a new battery in the meter.. Still had 0.300 amp draw in 10amp range. But got that down to 0.113 amps on 10amp range.
I don't quite get it follow the things your both suggesting with bulbs. I guess I'm being a bit stupid being out of it for a few years and more so the last two years.
No one still can't semm to quote me what a resting xm current draw is on their car so I've no figures to go against.
I Remeber leaving an S1 H plate xm sed for 2 weeks connected to a battery.. I put the key in.. The heater plug light went out.. The car spun over about 10 times and vroooom off it went. There was no sign of weak battery.
What I'm saying is this xm should not flatten a new battery in 4 days. No car should really. Should they?

Re: M reg 1995 2.1td autobox Swap
Precisely Alasdair. The xm is mechanical fuel so no ecu.. There is an alarm but the siren doesn't work. Pulling the cigarette lighter fuse and suspension supply fuse dropped it right down to about 10ma... So I may need to look at suspension circuit. Im going to confirm suspension fuse removal tomorrow.... So I'm heading in the right direction. I'll relay switch the suspension fuse of I have to.

Re: M reg 1995 2.1td autobox Swap
The current figures I quoted for "a bulb" were simply what you should see on the meter if a bulb is directly connected to a 12v battery.
They are the current draw figures to be expected for 5W, 21W and 55W bulbs, and could be used to check that the meter (set to 10A, and placed in series with the bulb) is reading reasonably correctly.
The residual (quiescent, everything off) current drain on an XM should be around 0.030A (30mA). Anything over 50mA is going to be a problem.
You must check the meter for reasonably accuracy before reaching any conclusions.

Paul, you need to call on the help of an electrician, or someone who knows their way around vehicle electrics.
What we're suggesting are basic checks, and disconnecting whole fuseboards is likely to make things worse.
Remote help is a tad tricky!
Wish I were more local, but won't be until later this year, when a move to Shropshire should come off, if everything goes to plan.

Re: M reg 1995 2.1td autobox Swap
I know a little bit Chris.. Swapping a fuse board is a walk in the park.. The fuse box swap I think has cured the heater panel sticking on if the Ac was switched on..
I'll concentrate on the cigarette and suspension supplies for now..
Thankyou for the suggestions. I'll look it up tomorrow when I'm not quite as tired and go from there.

Re: M reg 1995 2.1td autobox Swap
I would expect an idle car to use less than 20mA.
At 0.1A (100mA) it will drain a fully charged, good condition 70Ah battery completely in 700 hours, 29 days. That sounds a long time, but the engine probably won't start once the battery is below about 11.6v, so about 50% of the time, or 15 days.
If you have a 0.1A draw, that is a constant 1.2W. Not sure how much the digital clock consumes, I suspect not much, the alarm is likely to draw more.
Apart from the clock, remote door locking/unlocking, alarm, if fitted, there shouldn't be anything drawing power on a locked up Xm.
Check across each fuse for voltage drop. It will be in the mV range, but will be there for any circuit drawing current.
The suspension and cigarette lighters shouldn't draw any power unless the Ign is switched on, a door open, or a consumer plugged into the cigarette lighter.
Check for water in the Hydractive Ecu, crosstalk at the connectors and at the cigarette lighters and door switches. I'm not sure if the hydractive uses the door latch, or pin switches to start the timer, I believe it is the lighting pin switches.
Your reading of 10mA should be about right for the closed up car and is a good figure.

Gabor's diagrams includes a table (on one of the pages) listing the quiescent currents he found on the various parts of the system.
