May be something similar, maybe not, but I have had no interior lights and an alarm system with a mind of it's own on my S1 Xantia. Lifting the carpets on the passenger side revealed it swimming even though the carpet was dry on top. Brought the alarm module inside to dry and separated the connector for the lights and a week later all is well.

Might be worth a look.

interior lights have been disconnected by me, i discovered it had been on fire above the headlining, on the cable which feeds the passenger side rear light

wiring has been made safe for now, in the coming weeks etc i shall rewire the interior lights, inspect the rest of the loom and ensure all is safe

had the battery on charge for a few hours the other day, result, no alarm issues....i have been told by paul how to disconnect the alarm, which is a job i shall do in the coming days

today i've been focusing on making the windscreen washers work, in preperation for the MOT on Tuesday, this was an easy job it was due to the pumps being siezed

managed to get the glovebox to latch, this will make it a pain to open it again but for now it's closed and doesn't look silly being stuck open

project is going rather well, it does need the bodywork tidying up a bit

i notice someone has fitted cruise control to it, apparently this does not work, so therefore i shall be removing the system....all the components for the cruise control will be free of charge for whoever wants it

IF the cruse is the standard factory fit, it is quite simple to get it working/faults are easy to ID and are often an easy fix.

genuine kit, but added in afterwards

i think it has a leaking water pump, albeit i cannot see far enough underneath but it leaves a decent sized puddle undernearth after 2-3 days
yet level doesn't really seem to be going down, certainly not had to top it up since i've got the car

however, does not seem to lose coolant when it's running

Good to see you are cracking on, hopefully all will be well with the test.

Make sure the water pump isn't leaking when running, otherwise the tester will abort the test, if any leak is significant. If it's only leaking a dribble, or light spray, offer them some shampoo...

S1 diesels never had cruise control fitted.. It was only on petrol Autos from late 1992...

The car has had a genuine S2 2.1td cruise kit added.. Stalk (poorly) vac pump.. Ecu and vac bellow and wired up but not sure it was ever finished..

I'd be interested in taking it all max to go on my S1 project..

doesn't seem to be leaking when running

my reason for running plain tap water in it at the moment is i want to run the car for a week or so before getting a new cabelt and water pump, just to make sure all is okay with the rest of it

i want to prevent contamination to the belt as much as possible, now i doubt there will be much in say what, a week or running (100 miles or so)

just reluctant to put £400 or so into a car i know nothing about without using it for a bit first

Makes sense to use plain water for now.

£400 for a cambelt and water pump, are you not doing this job yourself?
It's a bit fiddly due to space by the side of the engine, but an easy enough task to do.

Good luck with the MOT test?
