That’s great news, I don’t know when but I hope to become the third XM guy at some point. Are you now running around in it? There is a group on Facebook called “Retros of Teesside” (it is a big group, worth joining) and I notice a guy has a beautiful looking blue XM. So when mine gets done, there will be 3 XM’s I’m Teesside, that we know about. At the CCC National Rally on 8-10th July.
Dereks car is in Wisbech, so he could just about push it there if the starter motor isn't done...

Re: XM V6 Sei finally going for restoration
It might be a bit too heavy to push
Paul (citroenxm) is kindly supplying a replacement starter motor. So when it arrived in Wisbech, it will be fitted and then Peter will get the XM running. He can then tackle the suspension system.
I think it might be slow going, because Peter is a busy man

Re: XM V6 Sei finally going for restoration
Hi All, looking for a bit of advice for my mate Pete. The starter Paul kindly provided, arrived in Wisbech and is working great. Today Pete installed it but there is still an issue with the car. The car won’t turn over on the key (correct code entered), just some dash lights go off. However, it will spin if the starter is shorted. That indicates a possible problem with the starter relay. So first question, does anyone know the location of the relay, or any other suggestions regarding the possible problem? Cheers….Derek

Try holding the key in the start position and move the gear lever from P to N..I've even just sort of pulled the lever towards R then bavk to P.. But bringing it to N will also allow starting, If the selector is out if adjustment it may not quite put the inhibit switch in the correct position when in P
The inhibit switch is on the back if the box.. I can't remember if the Autos have an additional start relay.. If so its obevof the relays behind the Headlights.

Many Thanks for your reply, I have sent it over to Peter. You reply makes a lot of sense....Derekcitroenxm wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:06 pmTry holding the key in the start position and move the gear lever from P to N..I've even just sort of pulled the lever towards R then bavk to P.. Re: XM V6 Sei finally going for restoration
The relay isn't a starter relay, it is the start inhibit relay. All the starter solenoid current passes through the Ign switch, as opposed to the relay making a direct battery feed.
iirc, it is the outermost relay behind the left hand headlamp.
The starter current passes through the ignition switch, then the start inhibit relay main contacts.
The relay is energised by the ignition switch sending power to the gearbox selector switch, which transfers power to the start inhibit relay coil when the selection is either Park, or Neutral, thus closing the main contacts.
The dashboard indicator should also show the selection the gearbox selector switch is making.
All the Series 1 wiring diagrams are in the, below, linked thread.

As citroenxm says, the fault could be either the gearbox selector switch, or the start inhibit relay.
Shorting out the main contacts of the starter inhibit relay would allow the Ign switch to send power to the starter irrespective of the gearbox selection. Make sure the gearbox is in Park before trying this.

Just a note:..... I had corroded wires feeding into/hidden under the relay plug/mounting bracket, only found when I dismounted the sockets/mount from the body
