Sadly it appears to have killed my wifes back for life. She always has that one really sore spot in her back that car caused.
I consider this a serious accusation you might want to take up with Citroen in France. I find it curious also that the physical problems only manifested themselves after a few years and 100,000 km on the road.

Your talking long term there.... The short term was the problem. Here's a suggestion. Next time you drive your XM, hold your accellerator foot off the floor, and dont' at any point let your heal touch. Come back and let me know how long it takes to get cramps in your legs and be in agony. I've seen several "modifications" to the accelerator pedals in BX's out here to attempt to overcome this problem. We should have fitted cruise control to it.... That way you wouldn't be forced to have your foot on the accelerator. It seems to be the 2litre manuals that suffered the worst from this with those horrible scratchy seats that have the rotary knobs at the front of the lower seat.

I think that the BX td was a fantastic car in its time, one of the original 'hot hatches'. We had several, the last one being a TZD estate, the seats were very comfortable in that and the performance was amazing, it also had a very smart interior. We replaced it with a ZX td but my wife couldn't do her Stirling Moss imitations in that and was rather disappointed. The ride was the advertised selling feature, the adverts showed an estate with a fish tank in the back being driven over a rough surface without spilling the water.

OK, this will be my final response to this nonsense. I think it's been taken far enough. I drove BX models for 7 years. Never detected anything amiss with the accelerator pedal (unlike the current Toyotas but that is OT Image)
I used to drive these cars for hours on end on the expressways and on local roads in slow moving traffic - no complaints. Very good seats, better than higher ended BMWs. To one of my BXs I did fit cruise control, but not because a fault with the acc pedal.
Although you seem to have issues with Citroen cars, except the vintage ones, I suppose it is not my place to suggest you stay away from them Image

I drove a Berlingo van for a few days a couple of years ago, and it had the same problems Shane describe with his BX. Bloody awful accelerator position, giving me a sore leg and hip after a short time on the motorway.

If the accelerator can't be used with the heel on the floor, it sounds like the cable is adjusted too tight so altering the pedal height. Cables should be set so the full throttle position is obtained when the pedal hits the stop/carpet, otherwise the position is wrong and the throttle spindle is stressed.

I've had 13 BX's of various types, manual, auto, petrol, all three seat types and never have experiences any troubles - I drove the BXagon in one - that was nearly 3,000 miles in eleven days through some pretty challenging stretches too...

Now that you mention the petrol BX thing Shane, you made me think of driving my Pal's 1.6 Petrol BX, and a previous owner has put an extension plate onto the pedal. So he must have had the same problems as you.

There was a lot of people out here complain about the BX accellerator pedal ( remember we only really got the 2litre manuals, mostly the "TRi" cars with those horrible seats. The car with the very good BX16valve or BX GT seats were very rare... Sadiy the GT seats broke there seat frames early on so couldn't really be retro-fitted to other cars).

We probably all still know Alan Smith here, he kept telling me the accellerator pedal thing was a "women thing", one of the BX's he sold the next (female) owner found the driviing position crippling in... Yet he found it fine.... The strange bit being his back was extremelly bad and had been crushed at one point. He was one fall away from being paralised, yet found the BX seating postion good ??

Oh well, all I know there is no way we'll have one in this yard again :)
