Paul,
Drive a series 2 Xm for a while, and you soon get used to it and never think anything of it.

Re: XM Series 3 !!!!
They'll all rust eventually. Give them time. This is what concerns me, I was blissfully arrogant to XMs rusting. I thought they are rust free. How wrong was I.
Still, they rust a hell of a lot less than the CX!

And this is only the tip of the iceberg! It needs the rear sub-frame changed, and loads more welding besides! Luckily the Longerons have already been changed.

Re: XM Series 3 !!!!
interesting comments.... The best dash by far is the Series II XM (or is it Xantia) dash. You see the Series I CX, it's door trims curl up, split and fall off, it's steering wheel melts into slush, the dash itself isn't bad. The switch blocks on the dash binacle eventually disintiigrate, but that takes many years.
The Series II CX has good door trims, and the steering wheel doesn't melt.... But the dash unit is bloody appalling, just like the bloody BX, park it in the sun and the dash curls up, cracks... and splits everywhere. The dash gauges all die, and the stupid dash packets all destroy themselves.... even if you don't open them. The dash unit expands in the sun smashing all the door hinges.
Then we have the Series I XM, this car has the god awful plastic used in the BX and Series II CX, it's turns to dust infront of your eyes. Every bit of plastic breaks if you breath near it, the dash cracks in half a million spots, the glovebox lid disitigrates.... every plastic part in the interior of them is utter crap. Worst than sh!t. Replace it with a NOS part and the replacement plastic will be dust/broken/dead within a summer.
The Series II XM...... It's a realy good hardy dash, pitty it's a crap design like all the modern cars, stupid switch gear without the proper instrument pods like the Series I BX/XM and CX's. Why go from such an exceptional dash layout to the "averageness" of the dash layout of every other car maker ??
I'd love to have a drive of the CX/XM mule shown earlier in this thread (ie: the CX with XM running gear). It would be interesting to see what the car drives like. Hopefully it still has the proper wishbone suspension of the CX rather than the god awful struts and shitty suspension geometry fitted to the XM.
... Why oh why go backwards decades and fit god awful struts that can only ever be a "comprimise" where handling and ride quality is concerned ??

Shane L.
