Hi George,

When I sold the TCT to Ian, the XM was SORN'd and uninsured so I couldn't tax it for him. Initially Ian arranged to borrow trade plates but this didn't work out so Ian arranged his insurance and I agreed to keep the car for him until his cover note came through. When it did, he came over, we did the paperwork and I took him to the local Post Office to get the tax disc and I posted the V5 off at the same time. It worked out well but I could imagine it would be far more troublesome with a difficult customer.

What I find ironic over here is that you can be fined 200 smackers, and even have your car impounded and crushed, for no tax. However having no Vehicle Test Certificate (MOT) displayed, which could be a potential safety issue, and of greater public concern than no tax, is punishible by a fine of 30-60 quid and let merrily on your way. The car is only lifted in that case if its deemed to be in a dangerous condition.
Just shows where 'their' priorities are, up their collective asses.

Luckily the cops here aren't too bad with the tax thing, and any I've met seem to largely share the view that the aforementioned situation is ridiculious, and resent having to waste valuable resources policing such, but still.

The other thing I really can't get over anytime I drive in Scotland / England, is the sheer amount of those numberplate cameras, they are absolutely EVERYWHERE. I could count on one hand the number of them over here that I've seen.

The part of Scotland we go to doesn't even have speed cameras - or paying car parks or no parking areas or ..... :D :D :D

It must be a small part of Scotland!!

When I used to live in Edinburgh there were loads of cameras. And the road from Dundee to Aberdeen was full of them as well!

The first place I saw average speed cameras was from Ayr to Kilmarnock.

Hi all, Northern Constabulary have an area equivalent to 1/5 of the Uk,(total population still shy of 1/4 mill)and the Chief Constable went on record that he didn't consider fixed cameras improved road safety, but does now use mobile units.Still rare to see one, and our local rag the "Strathie" publishes there planned whereabouts anyway.
The last fixed camera heading North is in Tayside at Killiecrankie/Blair Atholl on the A9 facing southbound.

I got flashed by that camera on the A9 Robert, nearest I have been to having a speeding ticket - but I didn't get one. Its placed very close to the speed limit sign, I took my foot off as usual but it didn't slow down in time, or maybe possibly I did. There's another 200 miles of Scotland north of there :D
