Bastards

Post by Ciaran » Sat Apr 10, 2010 1:05 am

I emerged from a customer's house tonight to find this lovely little mess, which was done in the space of five minutes, the perpretators of which stood smugly just up the road, knowing I had no proof and couldn't do a thing about it:

Hard to see but the lock is mangled, twisted metal covering the opening, preventing key entry, and the plasic deformed. Also, which can't be seen in the photo, a nice scrape on both front and back door where the screwdriver obviously slipped:

Am I right in thinking those particular windows are bonded in? Has anyone ever successfully removed one without destroying it?

Any thoughts appreciated :)

This is really so disgusting. What were these scumbags after? Seeing this kind of thing and other evidence of useless destruction of property in your part of the world (posted before) helps me understand while your cars there have alarm systems.
Perhaps this XM did not have one. And, yes, this kind of action is accomplished within a few minutes. Does one learn to cope and live in communities where this is rampant? I don't suppose CSI will come in and collect forensic evidence.

The rear quarter glass is bonded. But my workshop manual does not clearly show how the fixed glass in the doors is fitted. Probably without adhesive. Sorry, I've never done the job. Someone else will come along, I'm sure.

Hi Ciaran

Sorry about the mindless damage.
The quarter glass is bonded.
First stop is to check if your insurance covers glass damage.
It is fairly easy and cheap for a specialist to clean out the remains and bond in a new pane.
If that is no go then recovery of old glass is a real pain. I have not got past windscreens yet.
The lock is no problem. Stick in a spare one for now. RobertS should be able to find you one with key.
If you send me the key number then I will make you up a replacement retumblered to match the original keys.

Sorry to see that mindless scrotes have picked on your car. They should be shipped off to Afganistan clearing mines - without equipment.

I hope you get it fixed without too many problems.

Hi Ciaran

I echo the thoughts of the others, makes me feel guilty for livng in a part of the country where we don't generally get this sort of thing - it may well come of course, anyway hope you manage to sort it out allright.

What pricks,

I'm lucky to never be in Belfast much.

We'll have to try and take one of these glass panes out of my scrapper estate, or put on one of the saloon doors from the Onyx to make your car secure again.
