The DS is actually a "fully powered" rack. Not "PAS" "Power Assisted Steering" like all of the inferior cars. It appears most DS racks have quite a bit of wear these days, and are NOT simple to rebuild, especially if they have a leaky rotating union.

I need to study someday exactly how they work.... They (like most things DS) are very interesting. I've driven DS's with the rack crossover pressures set incorrectly, and they were terrible, really notchy !! Like Daravi they need to be setup right. You gotta love the way the DS steering palpitates like crazy on full lock too

Very good, also Anti Sink and 6+2 pumps werent devised either!

However, its a simple mod to make, and an easy change over!!

All you need is the Xantia Pump, and the Steering rack PAS feed pipe!! The only draw back, the car will still sink, so will take a bit longer to pump up!

Hey maybe you could also pipe in a pair of anti sink valves too!

With a brand new FDV? it still hisses constantly? that's a pain - bang goes my theory then.. I therefore have no idea why it gets stuck in hiss phase  Mind you, did you also replace the pump? I wonder if the only solution is to replace the FDV and HP pump as a set to get the balance right (regulator too?) then it might be good for 10 years of use with the correct occasional hissing sound.

My 2.0 Si hisses away merrily to itslef, even when it had only 17k on the clock.

The SD had a Pleadies re-conditioned FDV on it when I got it, the car didn't hiss, but the PAS didn't work. I see the hissing as a carachter trait, and nothing to be alarmed about.

Hummm !
I think il'l just let it hiss then,  , like you say it does stop on slight pressure on the steering, and if you give it gas , 'n' let it tick over at round 1000 rpm !, i was just a little concerned that it mite be something that needed to be sorted out, but if it's a trait of Citreon, then il'lleave well alone !
Not having had this hissing on the Xanita, i thought in was cause for concern,

Just a quickly while i'm here, ! just bought some new plugs today ,! and the old one's which looked like they'd been in there from new :o , well rusted in   , they have three prongs ont he bottom, the one's that where sold to me today only have one !!, they said , these where the only one's they had listed for that car !!, should i take them back a buy the same as the old one's ??, or fit them , but will they make any differance on performance, ?? the one's that came out where, NGK BCPR6ET, the one's sold to me are BKR6EK !

Any idea's ??

I had three-prongers on my BX 16v, and I went to GSF and bought plugs for the car (you've guessed it; single prong) which they insisted were right. Not satisfied I went to my Citroen specialist who fitted three-prong ones. Who knows if they made a difference? I never compared them. If it's specified by Citroen, then use them IMHO.

It appears they should be RC9YCC, BKR6EK, BKR6EIX or equivalent.

Well i bought Bosch 4 prongers, !!!!! Halfrouds, £20.49

Hell what a differance  , just got to deal with a slight miss fire @ 5000rpm !! :o , it gets up there quickly, but it don't wanna rev past that, and starts to pink at bit , so i feel a new set of HT leads tommorow, they do look a bit old, !
Then two new spheres ordered for the front corners, i think it need some new wishbone bushes, and the little bit of paintwork to do,ie front bumper, then that shpould do for a while ..... i hope ;) ;)
