V6 24 for sale with interesting history
From the CCC Forum.
A unique opportunity - Dr. Alex Moulton's XM is for sale
Dr Moulton is, of course, the inventor of 'Hydrolastic' and 'Hydragas' suspension systems used on BMC/BLMC/Austin/Rover/MG cars for many years. He has owned Citroens since the 1970s and greatly admires them, particularly the GS/A and XM.
1998 S reg Exclusive Hatch RHD
3.0 litre V6 24v Auto
Mauritius Blue, Cream leather
70,000 miles with main dealer service history
Air con, CD changer
This car is still for sale and he is open to offers.
Anyone wanting further information, please contact
dan@moultonbicycles.co.uk
Offers around the £4k mark I believe.
No shots of the exterior I'm afraid.

Why is the steering wheel on the wrong side? Are the pictures revered?
Nice late one, very tidy, mind you, not run it at 70k!

Folks, these are pictures I borrowed from Planete Citroen to show someone on CCC forum what the beige leather looks like in a XM. They are not pictures of Dr Moulton's car.

Yep, it will be an auto.
There was one picture of it on a classified ad a while ago on the CCC forum. Just a bit lacking on info for a car with such a price tag.

I dare say it's a beauty. Trouble is you can buy a decent Mercedes or Jaguar for that money too, (not saying they're a better bet), and some just won't be able to see how a twelve-year old XM could possibly be worth that much. If I could afford it (and afford to run it) I would be tempted although I have heard tales of the 24v being less than robust. Is that right? And combined with the auto box (which in this case I'm sure would've been serviced correctly), that raises more doubts as to reliability in some people's minds. I can only see this ending up at WHM at the moment

Don't forget Roger Bradford either!
The weakness here is the autobox itself, its the sealed for life unit if I'm not mistaken.

My local Citroen Indy has a S reg V6-24v in regularly for servicing.
Red with black leather.
Box is still fine and it is up around 175k now.
Keep mentioning that I will take it away as soon as it becomes available.
Owner seems very attached as it is currently getting a replacement exhaust.

Do not get confused! The PSA 24v unit is VERY strong, its the same as the Xantia one.. Its the auto box's as mentioned... Sealed or not, theres a way to change the fluids, albeit slowly..
Remember, the XM S1 also got the PRV 90 deg 24v engine, and unless modified by Citroen were very weak.. this said now, I doubt very much theres any un modified 24v lumps left if many S1 24v's around at all.. They are VERY rare, and are still quicker then the S2, firstly have 5 more BHP or so, and secondly a Manual Box, though the later auto adaptive box is not as power sapping as the older "Mechanical" auto box...

So, Paul, given the provenance and what you say, this could be an enormously rewarding XM to own. I must say, I am tempted, but it isn't realistically going to happen. However, by brother's after a smart new set of wheels....
