Thanks Guys.
I'll recheck tomorrow, but couldn't get T55 to go into the bolt heads and was sure the cam carrier bolts were Torx, though it was very late and I was tired and more than a little worn down.

You cannot get to the head bolts with the cam carrier still on.. it obscures the bolt heads..

I can see 10 bolts through the cut outs in the cam carrier...I thought that was all there was?

I've just done a test with M6 Hex and T55 bits and I'm very pleased to say you were both right, thanks. The T55 is a very tight fit and I had to ensure I was spot on with orientation and tap it in with a hammer.

If I get chance later I might get the head off as I want to rebuild it this w/e assuming I have all the reqd parts.

Yes Dman, yes on the 2.1 there are 10 head bolts and you can access them through the cut outs in the cam carrier,as i said i did one this way without seperating the cam carrier from the head.

I could have sworn they couldn't due to cam carrier - prehaps it was my adapter was too fat...

I had to take the carrier off mine too, if you can get them off together that's great news, simplifies the job somewhat.

Or your fat and dumpy fingers got in the way.. ;)

Seriously though, you need a long reach torx bit to reach down far enough and clear the carrier frame.

When trying to remove the head off the SED the Torx bit snapped clean off, it wasn't a weedy thing either so I ended up buying a set of impact Torx bits.

I wonder if the bit is tight because the bolt has been damaged?

I don't think so, they are all the same, which is why I was struggling to insert the bit the other night. I'm happy the bit is a good fit, less chance of damage to the bolt head on removal.
