I think its a sign Dean, you need to get yourself a CX!! I reckon a GTi Turbo 2 would fit the bill perfectly for you.

Good point
I would indeed love a CX turbo 2 but they are out of my price range for the time being, hoping to look round a few at cxm though.

My advice is buy one that is in good condition, one that doesn't need to be restored. Its cheaper in the long run than buying a cheap project car!

Possibly like THIS or even maybe THIS one (on E-Bay) ?robert_e_smart wrote:My advice is buy one that is in good condition, one that doesn't need to be restored. Its cheaper in the long run than buying a cheap project car!
The second one could even tempt Peter now he's sold the Black XM saloon, as it's an ESTATE, DIESEL and it's a MANUAL.
But sadly it's not in Silver !

Re: not an XM but.........
I Know how brilliant Cx Safari's are and would suggest there aren't that many great estates (if at all)
that could be bought for £1500. I have my own feelings about the Xm estate equivalent and while I own
x2 feel they're just a slightly longer boxier Xm saloon whereas a Cx Safari is the bespoke carryall/tow
anything piece of kit with the longer wheelbase and rear doors.
The DTR engine is a brilliant bit of kit and don't let anyone convince you they're rubbish and prone to
porous block problems - it's always the head! Peter - did you ever change the head on yours as well as
the gaskets?

Re: not an XM but.........
I bought a CX25 DTR Turbo Safari in the late '80s, ran it for seven years and 162,000 miles, best car I ever had - apart from having to replace the head gasket every 15,000 miles.

At least changing a head gasket on a CX is easy to do.

I'm finding my head gasket very easy to do - drive to garage, leave car at garage, hand over a grand, collect car from garage in c. ten days.robert_e_smart wrote:At least changing a head gasket on a CX is easy to do.
