in here!Does anybody know if the brake calipers fitted to the Series 2's are the same size and compatible with the Series 1 V6 24v?
Nobody seems to stock anything for the Series 1 24v anymore.

If the car has the 283 mm diameter discs (in use from RP5229 onwards) then the answer is yes. Early Mk1 calipers are marked NFP ( No further production?)
Caliper part numbers for 283 mm diameter discs are:
Left side 95659637 (New) or 441013 (Remanufactured?)
Right side 95659638 (New) or 441014 (Remanufactured)
Yoke part numbers are:
Left side 440420
Right side 440421

I seem to recall something odd about early V6-24 production.
So few made that the production line continued using old components when other models changed.
As far as the calipers are concerned I think both types use the same fixing points and bolts.
If so they can be interchanged but as well as doing both sides you must changes discs and pads types too.

I've got an old V6 24v Series 1 that I started to do some work on years ago before getting distracted and leaving it sitting.
I changed the brake calipers as the ones on it were knackered.
GSF told me I got the last 2 in the country but unfortunately they've given me basic 2 litre calipers as the discs and pads wouldn't fit inside them.
Unfortuantely I never took them back either.
I'm now sick and tired of seeing the car looking sorry for itself so need to get it back on the road.
I'll try and measure the brakes on my other 24v and see what size they are.

The early calipers use smaller (276mm) and thinner discs.
They look identical just smaller.
The pads are different too fortunately noticable with two little spikes on the outer edge.
Early disks and pads are regular items on ebay and not all sellers seem to know the difference.
To tell the difference between the caliper types look at the material of the handbrake operating arm.
If it is manufactured from round bar then you have the later type.
If it is manufactured from diecast alumimum and has a cruiciform cross section then it is the early type.
You cannot mix any of the components between these two types of brakes.
It maybe that all you need are the thinner and correct pads.
Have a look at ebay item 250581790128 as this shows a good photo of these early pads.

For reference (from Citroen Service) the XM front brake disc / caliper evolution is as follows:
All early Mk1's had 276mm diam X 22mm thick discs until RP 5228 ( 3/3/1991)
From RP 5229 283 X 26 discs were fitted (+ new pad and caliper design) probably covering the majority of XM production.
A late change at RP 7476 ( 28/4/1997) was to enlarge the discs again to 288 X 28 (+ new pad and caliper design) but only for the V6 and 2.5TD models as far as I can see.
