wanted - front bumper chrome strip in bad state for £5?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

wanted - front bumper chrome strip in bad state for £5?

Post by jorgy » Wed Jul 07, 2010 8:10 pm

Hi all

My putting back together my front-damaged 2.1td is almost terminated now -I'll write an update with photos when it's totally finished-. Paint-job done is good, and car's been running 3 weeks now.

The only thing missing is a chrome strip for the front bumper. I'm thinking of color-coding it to body color and c how it looks, so:

anybody wants to get rid of a 1-piece front bumper trim in not-good state (but not broken/cracked!), for £5 + post? It's for an S2 bumper, but S1 or S2 will do, shape and fittings r looking identical, have checked.

If not, anybody got a centre piece from a headlight-washer model they want to get rid of?

Please answer here or email me, my pm never worked properly.

thanks
George

Hi George,

Please be aware that the S1/1.5 front bumper trim is NOT compatible with an S2 model (the S2's are slightly longer in length on the outer N/S and O/S 'Hockey stick Sections') also IIRC the under side clipping point lugs are in different locations too !

However I can confirm that the rear bumpers and trims are identical between the S1/1.5 and S2 model's (For both saloon to saloon and estate to estate) if you had the need to change those between early/later model's.

I do however have available all three trim section's from an S2 front bumper from a headlamp jet-wash model
(middle section plus N/S & O/S 'Hockey stick' section's) with no cracks but with poor contaminated chrome finish.

So if that's what you need ? I can oblige your request, E-Mail sent !

Thanks for the useful info, and for your offer XMX, got your email.

Let's see if anybody comes up with a 1-piece S2 trim, as this is preferable, otherwise I'll take your offer.

thanks

But how will any one be able to post that in one piece ?

As the box for such a flimsy bit of plastic trim will be enormous !

The size of the parcel may exceed the post office/parcel force permitted sizes for posting,
it also maybe outside the Couriers permitted sizes ?

Best of luck !

Hi XMX

Just wrapping it in brown paper or bubbly film should be sufficient. The courier will see it as a 170x50x5cm "box". This will do it no problem, not too expensive either. I'll arrange the courier.

I've received the bonnet and bumper for this car by courier...!

Enclosing the strip in cardboard from old carton boxes would be even safer but I really don't think it's necessary -the strip is quite flexible-.

cheers

I have had both a new front and rear series 1 chrome strip sent by royal mail with no problems. You end up with a very large recatanular parcel that is very light!

I think they must be pretty rare, I, at least, have great difficulty in getting them off in one piece.

They are easy to get off in one. Use a thin pry wedge like a Shark-Grip and locate it where the locating tabs are then lever out.

I have got them out with a plain screwdriver without problems before.

Perhaps it was because I tried in cold weather but it snapped into several pieces.
