2.1 Sump

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

2.1 Sump

Post by Richard » Thu Jul 29, 2010 7:13 pm

Well, after being so smug my wife's 2.1 has about 300,000 on the clock and no major problems, it turns out we have an oil leak. The sump has a hole in it!!

I'm told this isn't unusual, Fords, Vauxhalls etc. But an XM?

Well, looks as if I now need a sump. Does anyone have a decent sump they want to sell?

Or, what other motors use this 2.1 engine, if any?

Any help gratefully received.

Richard

I seem to remember that the sump is different for aircon than non aircon.

Hi all, dropped one of my 2.1's when the trolley jack slipped and with the car depressurised it sat on one corner of the jack frame cracking the cast alloy sump.It really is an awkward job removing one,the a/c compressor has to come off,the osf corner of the sump flange will not clear the subframe and you must lift the engine up to enable it to do so.The protusion of the oil level indicator and oil pump pick-up prevent any movement other than vertically down.I broke the former before realising it should be removed first.
The good news was my local precision engineering workshop repaired it by welding for £25.
