Steve.
Agreed, which is why I had two from new in 1991 and 1994. The dealers demo car was in Mandarin, which I thought was lovely, but I went for white and green for mine.

Putting on my hat as a designer, my main criticism with the Xm has always been the fussy
glasshouse due to the extra door 1/4lights and the contradictory angles of diverging verticals
where one raidiating focal point from a point high above the car would have been a better
solution to the double curvature glass breaks compromise - I'd wager the design engineers
ruled the roost over the easthetics and the stylists on this one and the car suffers for it.

The bonnet shutline across the nose of the car rather than around the front creaseline of the
nosecone smacks of another compromise likely foisted upon the stylists too and is the other
main irritation I get when viewing the otherwise handsome well proportioned car.

The crease line along the flank of the car has a noticeable step on it's edges yet isn't very
well resolved in it's surface finishing on the bulge of the front wing where it starts at it's
front leading edge.

Minor tweaks all but would raise the car higher from just 'handsome' for me.

Don't get me wrong, The rain guttering (of it's era) on the Cx isn't very well resolved and
is clumsily executed too and i notjing else does, dates the car the most. For me personally,
the surface detailing and resolution of clean shapes is just that notch up on the Cx.

Doesn't stop me liking the Xm and I do have a good many of thm...
