Monte Carlo alloys x4 anyone? exchange with my "early 24v"?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

I'd love a set of decent 24v rims as I damaged x3 off my 24v when they were being 'borrowed' by my TCT. :(
I do have a set of these 'wonderful' Monte Carlo rims so will dig out some pictures for you George.
They really aren't my thing at all so if you fancy a swap we could both be happier bunnies. They
can be couriered without tyres as they're standing spare with worn to the limit tyres at the moment.
If they're paired into wrapped cardboard creating x2 parcels, full rate will be a very reasonable 18quid!
Are yours still tyre shod?

All the best,
Andrew

Hi Andrew

That's great, couldn't imagine it happening so easy!

Yes I have good tyres on them but they'll go off and will put them straight onto some other spare wheels I have to run the car, so not a problem for me. Courrier not an issue, have sent tyres/alloys other times, no probs.

Don't expect my alloys to be in perfect order, they're not at all, they're just average, with the odd peeling point. If u care, I'll make a photo of each and post here (let me know).

If urs show some age, I might as well decide to shell out and sending them for a refurb before fitting, sort of getting the car looking as good as can be...

Hi Andrew

That's a couple of photos of as good as they can look -u can well see the bits where they've peeled off. The rears are better, obviously.

I do like them and will miss them, I do like the Monte's too, the result is just completely different, wish I could have them all!

cheers

Hi George,
What have you done to your XM :o

I'm now inclined to keep it standard then, if that's what "the public" wants!

The /\ quote from THIS thread.

I haven't got a problem with a S2 grill/nosecone and front bumper on a S1 or S1.5 in fact IMHO it improves the look's 8-) !
It's just the massive double chevron's you added which look out of place encroaching on to the upper/top of the grill/nosecone  !

What do others think ?
But it's your XM at the end of the day so it's your choice, but it nice to see it's being bought back to life.

BTW I had my 2.5TD hit by woman reversing in a massive 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee, last Saturday (16-10-10) It was parked up outside my house.

I heard a big crash/bang sound, so I popped my head out the upstairs window and shouted to her 'Oi ! have you just hit my car' she replied 'I'm sorry I didn't see it' What on earth was she doing, probably gassing with her hubby I guess
It's a good job a young child or a cyclist wasn't there then whilst she was reversing !

So I now need a N/S/F wing (£187.37 + VAT) and a N/S/F door (No longer available) in Magenta, I'm in the process of sorting it out with the the woman's insurer's !

:)

Hi XMX

Sorry to hear of ur XM, hope u get it perfect again soon. Minor accidents are always a good chance to get a tired car up to scratch, with the fresh paint and all...

My td: It's an S2 bumper and S1 nosecone -conscious choice of combination (best of both worlds for me).

The chevrons are just from some other Cit, don't know which one. I've wanted to try this for ages and I tried other combinations also (other chevrons (styles, sizes, positioning))....There's a folder on my pc with plenty of photos just on this "modification"! Including a chevron-less front (painter has covered holes for the Cit original).

Is this chevron a succesful result? There are 2 issues here:

1/depends largely on the angle, the level, and the distance where the car is viewed from, and the light; from one particular angle, it looks very ugly -I almost wanted to delete that photo when I downloaded it in my pc LOL-.

2/being used to view a standard XM everyday, especially an S1 with its tiny chevron, it might initially strike u as "out of place", exactly your feelings (and mine too, sometimes). However, let me tell u, the opposite also happens: now that I'm used to it, if I remove the big chevron, the XM looks to my eyes like a semi-finished prototype of some stage where they've not finalised the front yet! Exactly the reverse of what u feel when u look at mine. Purely a matter of habit this one, an absolutely natural effect.

What it certainly does, is it adds "presence" to the frontal area. The S1 nosecone/chevron combination is quite "80s" in this respect -it's underdesigned-, while, as it happens, current automobiles have taken the opposite route, i.e. overdesigned fronts, thus the S1 nosecone looks even more underdesigned than it would when it was marketed. I do love this, but from some angles, the S1 front (S1 bumper doesn't help either) looks like a "Lada Samara" type-of car, or BX, if u see what I mean, a bit too simple and sketchy, bit like a Leggo-car?

Mind u, I used to love the S1 front and not liking the S2, but through time this has changed. One's perception of what is "modern" changes continuously, with design evolving....Perhaps one day I'll find XMs are overall looking "too old", to the point of not wanting to own one anymore, who knows. I feel this for the CX now, while a few years ago I'd die to own one. I'm certainly not viewing the XM as a "classic" -this aspet has 0 loading in my choices-, I drive 2 of them because I really want to be driving these cars.

Anyway, on my XMs I'm trying various other harmless (to the metal! LoL) aesthetical alterations, in and out, and actually it's an ongoing process that often sees the car back to "standard", if I've decided I don't like the mod -always leave it on for a good couple of months, to view it in all posible situations... I really enjoy doing this...and keeps me entretained ;-) In fact I wish I knew how to home-mould plastic.

Wait till u see what I'm doing in the interior of this one...!!!

Reliability-wise, it's been excellent, 11,000mls since last November and not a single problem -just one day, a jubillee clip came loose and some coolant escaped :-)

cheers

Hi George,

Your painter has done a great job with the bumper and bonnet I sent you. Its good to see them being put to good use.

Sorry to hear about your car RIchard. Luckily no one was hurt, but very frustrating all the same.

Hi Robert

yes, I was happy enough with the result's quality. The guy is a painter by profession. He painted all the panels visible on the photo, and the n/s front wing. £360 for this job. Paint is more durable than I expected -given it's not oven-backed; after 3,000 motorway miles, the front is not more chipped than a "professionaly" painted car. Sometime next year I will commission the other 2 doors, rear n/s wing and rear bumper (and roof...). I intend to preserve it well, so taking good care of it... thoroughly rinsing before I start the washing process so that no damaging particles stay on the panels, then, using the brush at the washing-station *only* to apply the foam, nothing more, then...caressing it with its own lamb's wool mit (each XM has its own... :D ). Didn't know about lambwool mits, they really are much better, such a silky feeling in comparison to a sponge. Also, cleaning any bird/tree droppings *on* the spot...Trying my best!

cheers

Im gonna have to find a painter to do my V6 12v SEi in identical colour Jorgy,

What sort of a gaurentee has he said for the Laquer lifting?? Is that a paint quaility issue or a "Metal underneath" issue..

Id be scared of my laquer lifting again after she was sprayed...

Please DO remove those awfull Chevrons though! They do spoil it..

You'd be much better off with a S2 grill, of which theres a white one on the bay at the moment..

VERY NICE though Jorgy, shame your so far away from the CXM Rallies...
