Monte Carlo alloys x4 anyone? exchange with my "early 24v"?

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Regarding paint, all early metalic paint jobs had trouble with clear coat lift, probably due to the clear coat being put on too late when the colour had already dried meaning the layers didnt bond together, i am in the middle of having a big paint lesson with my step father in law who repairs crash damaged cars.
From what i can see two pack is awesome paint as it goes on really thick and doesnt shrink back like single does but it has to be layed down right and surface leveler/fade out thinner is the key too. Ive actualy got a nice spray gun (gravity) from sealey for £30 and its so much better than a pressure feed one i had before as it uses so much less air and lays the paint down with less spiting, also doesnt put so much paint into the air.

The Car is looking lovely George, its come up really well.

What sort of a gaurentee has he said for the Laquer lifting?? Is that a paint quaility issue or a "Metal underneath" issue..

Id be scared of my laquer lifting again after she was sprayed...

VERY NICE though Jorgy, shame your so far away from the CXM Rallies...

Hi Paul

I did not ask for any warranty from the panter. The warranty was that I'd seen previous jobs of him, long before my car having been accidented (since 2007). He regularly buys bodywork-damaged cars from scrapyards and does them to make some extra cash. But he does his own cars too, and I had had the chance to inspect from near and was satisfied with the result. None of his cars had any lacquer lift. It's early, we'll see.

Re. the Rallies: the other side of the td is not good for them! Remember this car had a sill damage -this is to be repaired at the next installment. Then rallies will be in order!

cheers

The lacquer lift on originally painted Xm's is down to UV breakdown and shouldn't happen.

jorgy, I can't believe the price you got the painting done for it's very cheap for all that work...well done, it looks great.

Thanks Will :D I aim to make it look "like new". I'm always amazed how older cars loose lots of their appeal simply because of the natural cosmetic wear -that owners don't care to deal with. People then tend to confuse the effect of time on the paint etc, with the effect of the fact that design conventions have evolved. Even a Cortina can look...sympathetic among modern cars, if you make it look "like new". The other annoying thing is that, especially in the UK, I find the "fascism of the New" (as I call it :D ) is *so* strong...People are ready to eat you alive if you happen to drive an older AND shabby-looking car. How many times I've been almost bullied to "bin this old piece of junk and buy a new car"... I find that attitudes are neutered, or even reversed, if at least your older car is in spanking good shape...

Yep the price was very affordable -but remember, I'm in Scotland, and various things cost cheaper than in the South of the island...Furthermore, I am, specifically, in Kilmarnock, where, to my surprise, I found that various things are priced significantly lower than in Glasgow (only a 28 mile distance!). So it's actually a fair price if u put it in context.

Talking of that, this guy has just lost his job -he was a spray painter in a firm painting buses in Glasgow, that went bust. It makes me sad, I almost want to let him do the other side right now, but unfortunately my spending will be now diverted to the V6 -although I'm thinking whether I'm being unwise to even proceed to this, with the current climate...There's a big bill required as engine needs to go out for complete chains renewal and fixing broken manifold studs :(

cheers

I saw you in Glasgow on Friday George.

You were pulling up to the lights beside PC World in Glasgow heading up onto Argyle Street.

Car looked like a tidy example!

Hi George. Just going to get hold of them to take pictures to show you.

The ones you picture look OK but I would expect damage and peeling where
the metal weights have been hammered onto the rims.

Thanks Andrew.
You are absolutely right that my wheels are not to be taken for "as new" at all. They're quite average, as I said.
I'll take one-by-one photos of them and from a better for you.
Awaiting for ur photos then.
cheers!
