Wanted exhaust Back box for 2.1td

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Hi Campbell,

The £41 includes post, so its not too bad a price.

One thing to check is the 'gender' of the conical mating flanges for the back box. I have always used Bosal replacements because that is what the car came with and because a pattern back box bought from GSF would not fit because it had a cone joint instead of a socket (or vice versa - can't remember exactly). Anyway I had to return it for a refund. Looks like this ebay one has a socket.

Ken

pulled the old back box off this morning - it's an original PSA one. Noticed, after tying up the middle section, that the exhaust isn't so noisy with the back box missing and am going to investigate a straight pipe from the motor factors. The green car is kind of on borrowed time so the less money I spend on it the better, as far as I am concerned.

That's one of the advantages of having a turbo in the system.

Well you can do, but what I meant was it doesn't make a lot of noise when the exhaust is missing because the turbo takes most of the energy from the exhaust.

There is at least one other silencer box in the system as well.

It was making a hell of a racket with vibration until I tied it up and removed the back box.

The warning signs of hgf mainly, bad vibration through the front wheels at about 40mph, I dented it (the sill on a kerb in the pitch black in a country lane), it isn't as nice a car as the white one, less economical (by a good 5mpg), leaky sunroof, driver's window broken, no heater (fan inoperable), getting more difficult to start (hgf), I'd like some good quality, known spares ... I could go on.

I wouldn't scrap a 2.1td because of a head gasket, but if you think it's only good for spares.

Will

I have the skills to change one on my own (and the tools) but neither time nor inclination to do so And I know how much it costs to pay a garage to do the work. Apart from that, the cost of spares adds up and I know I will need some at some point. I like bEing self sufficient if possible. If she dies it will be so others can live.
