93 2.1TD with a driveline fault. Bought from eBay two days before Christmas, only just picked up.
Thread on another forum gives details of fault and, within 24 hours, has generated a load of useful replies. 130k, needs a massive clean inside and out, needs original radio
Having got it back to the farm:
Not easy getting through the Dartford tolls in a left hand drive vehicle. Strangely it was £3.70 going unladen through the tunnel, £1.80 coming back over the bridge with the XM on the trailer.

Hi macspite
Welcome to the club. In my opinion you have the best car of the range, except that it's a Mk 1

I have been running them for nearly 15 years now and they have been my only cars for much of that time so have done many thousands of miles in them. For a combination of ride comfort, space and economy I don't think the 2.1 manual can be beaten.
I hope you get you transmission problem sorted, I strongly suspect that failure of the o/s driveshaft centre bearing has allowed the shaft to slide out of the diff. I had this problem some years ago and it started with intermittent drive and then packed altogether on the A35 just east of Honiton, the AA recovered me but had I known what the problem was I would have got under and pushed the shaft back in.
Will watch this space with interest.
Peter

NOW NOW Peter - Dont get jelous - he has YOUR car. Manaul 2.1 td XM...... In Silver
This one is actually - I THINK - The BEST eira XM to have! You get the Proper Dashboard, Mk.2 Earth Points, the suspension rarely gets stuck in hard mode on S1.5's, Left hand display will ALWAYS work and not break up!!
Dont knock untill youve owned a S1.5
Ive had a bit to do with S2's and dont find quite as good on these points..

I have had them Paul, my first two XM's were '93's - that's why I prefer the Mk 2's
