Locks & remote wanted or just a lock.
I'm sure I posted this before but it doesn't seem to have been listed.
I'm back from a spell in Australia and still need a lock set for my 1995 2.5 TD XM, only the ignition lock can be turned, the key doesn't fit any of the other locks which means I'm unable to lock the car.
Ideally I'd love a complete set including ignition and receiver & remote plippers but for now I just need to be able to lock the car so just one lock & key for the driver's door would do. Wolsey House did have a complete set but at an overinflated price but it no longer seems to be there.
Anyone breaking an XM with a lock & key or a lock set suitable for a 1995 XM?

Re: Locks & remote wanted or just a lock.
The WHM set sold for the asking price last month.
My view was that unusually for them the price was reasonable for a working XM lock and plip set.
AEP currently want £150 for a new lock set alone and the chances are that it will not be the correct for your XM.
There are 4 different types of XM lock set but you do get 4 or 5 new factory cut keys.
Plip sets are available from Citroen at £300 plus.
Scrap yard sets seldom have a reasonable number of keys or even complete working locks.
It is possible to fit an aftermarket plip set for about £30.
Requires a bit of rewiring to make work.
Plenty of posts about this on the two sites from those who have fitted.
New old stock XM lock sets turn up on ebay every now and again.
They usually sell for somewhere between £30 to £50.
That is as cheap as it would cost to get extra keys professionally cut.
Lots of people looking for XM lock sets so they usually sell quickly.
If you are really stuck for locks swap the drivers lock with the passenger one for now.
Not ideal but quick and easy to do and could make the car secure.

John,
Swapping a passenger lock for a drivers lock doesn't work... they work in opposite ways... and so the passenger lock wont do the drivers lock...
I know this from experiance, as I tried in vein to get a working drivers lock, and tried this swap, and it was a no go... as the passenger presses down to lock, when on the drivers side it will be up, and there was something else causeing a problem I cant recall now.. But I failed ...
I know the Door Handles are ALL the same front or rear though...not that matters here..

Hi Paul
The door locks are identical except for the plastic end piece.
The end pieces are handed and the spigot that operates the release rods is set at a slightly different angle.
Colour coded plastic in black and white.
In practice the angle difference is about 15 degrees total and it fits into a fairly large operating hole.
There have been reports of them working swapped over.
Such a simple job so worth trying.
For a perfect fit though it takes less then 5 minutes to swap the plastic spigots between the locks.
Just need to drive out the locking roll pin to release the spigot.
And of course work carefully on a clean bench incase all the pingfu**ets fall out of the dissassembled lock.
Spent part of yesterday evening retumblering an estate tailgate lock.
Now they are a real sod to get apart if you have forgotten how.
Same type as the Xantia boot lock so at least I had some scrapyard spares to butcher while learning again.
Took longer to do than the Simplex Ignition lock that I retumblered during the afternoon.
I have tools, spares and instructions for repair of the earlier Citroen locks (BX, CX etc).
Will never use them so do you fancy taking that on.

Re: Locks & remote wanted or just a lock.
I have successfully swapped the driver and passenger locks, I know they were different and I had to change something round but can't remember what it was, no doubt what John is referring to.

Re: Locks & remote wanted or just a lock.
Looks like I may have found a set but will have to remove it myself.
Anyone got any instructions for removing the locks, receiver & ignition barrel? Also the boot lock if possible although that isn't all that important as central locking works fine.

Open the door, on the end of the door above the lock Catch theresa small grommet, remove the grommet, and behind there - or in there you may need a torch - theres a 4mm grub screw...
Remove the grub screw and then carefully lever the lock outward - you may break the plastic cover as they get brittle...
Once you located the 4mm grub screw its quite simple.. However, you will need a DAMM GOOD quality allen key, as they can corrode in place and NOT come undone with cheap allen keys.

Re: Locks & remote wanted or just a lock.
Once the grub screw is run back I lever the lock away from the handle working from underneath.
The inner front of the lock body has a toe that fixes it firmly in place.
If the grub screw has not been moved back fully the toe stops the lock comming out.
Messing up the allen slot makes lock removal a real pain.

Wahey, got myself a lock set including ignition, plipper & receiver, all for 30 quid.
Cheers for the advice, all came off without a hitch.
