Battlescar - now scrapping 2.1 TD Mk 2 Auto

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

Was that by the MOT tester?

I'm curious as to their view of these repairs.

Were the original plates completely knackered and were they removed from the rubber before fitting the new plates?
Not by the MOT tester no, it was recommended by the Swedish guy who sold the strut tops. Infact, the MOT guy didn't even inspect them!

I'll have to ask Charlie to be certain about how he did them. I'll post a piccy up later tonight

The drivers back and forth electric switch only moves back - I know it's not the motor as I had to move it forward again and managed to connect the terminals in the conn block. The switch may be mendable but assume not for now - I'll have a look.

On the engine, I shall be removing the glow plugs as they are new and had half an eye on the turbo for a 'project'! Let me know if that poses a problem
no not a problem! I can collect as I'm only in Gloucester.

To keep you informed, KP has expressed an interest in the XM and Xantia parts and is currently considering his options. Essentially, if I haven't found a buyer by say the middle of April then she'll have to go scrapyard bound and parts will be available as promised.

Sorry if that's has messed you about Mr messerschmitt owner, but having her go as one with potential for saving is my preference

nothing messes me about - I'd like to have the whole car but I am in the middle of scrapping a 2.0 Sei, have two XM diesels when I should really only have one - but am aware that I will need bits -if you sell it intact, I don't blame you.

Cheers guys :)

Dont venture on here much to be honest but if i can save her i will :)

I just need to work out what to do with teh gearbox to be honest as if i can find and get another one fitted it would be much simpler.

Also as i won't need the car forever im trying to do a deal where citreonxm from the FCF(paul) gets the car when im done as he seems keen on it. Not worried about battlescars as long as the interior is ok and will respond to a hoover and wash :) and the displays fix wrtie up on here could help me out a bit as well. always fancied a big one of these, the estate version would have been better but its still miles bigger than a Swift Sport for going on holiday with :D

Ah ha KP is on here! The dot matrix fixes won't work KP, I've tried them. I did have it 95% at one point but you have to press VERY hard on the contacts which on the ribbon are quite poor. The PCB contacts however are good. If you can get the french solution which I think Jan Hendrick has used then you'll be ok.

Paul is on here too - he says he has an auto box, which will probably see the car mechanically sorted (oh - apart from the ABS. It's not a sensor issue and it's not an MOT failure, but what happens is that the ABS kicks in at about 10mph, thus PROLONGING your stopping distance. I didn't think this too much of an issue until I needed to stop a little sooner than anticipated but the ABS kept letting me creep forward! No damage done, but I pulled the fuse. If you do take her on, you'll have good access to the ABS block with the Auto box out and it may be worth considering an ECU swap as I couldn't de-couple the ABS ECU when welding.)

The interior is very good, there has been, before it was put into Battlescar, what looks like a very well done repair to the stitching, not in the leather itself, but a seam resewn by about an inch. You have to look for it really. If you want heated seats, you'll have to run the looms for it. All the wood is there and no marks on it. The door cards are all good too. One think I never got round to buying were the plastic clips that locate on the door locking 'spigots'. So, if you want to lock or unlock from inside, you have to pinch the spigot and push or pull. IIRC, they are about £5 each from Cit. The roof lining however is grubby, partly from it's previous owners (not Charlie) but also from mildew from having been sat around for so long. She's not wet now by the way, in fact I've taped up the sunroof, a temporary measure to prevent water getting in the car until I had the time to investigate/clear drain tubes etc. But at least the rain doesn't get in and make her all damp and smelly. It's got an original Citroen/Philips radio, one of the bulbs is gone in the display but I'm assuming they are easy to get at and replace.

What else - I'm trying to think of all the negatives! There was once a CB aerial fitted to the rear of the roof. I have removed this but clearly there is a hole (taped over for now). I was going to look for an appropriate substitute. The front Aerial is missing also, but I *may* have the one off my Xantia if I can find it.
The door mirrors move and the n/s indexes ok, but I don't think the heating is working on them, even though the facility is there.

To get a useable and reliable motor you'll need to:
Sort the auto box
Sort the ABS if you want to
Replace the drivers seat forward and aft switch
Sort the exhaust (catalytic converter flange like frilly knickers but you can have my old Xantia one to cut'n'shut as it's flange is good)
If you don't go for the Mk1 Alloys and have the correct Exclusive alloys, you'll probably need a full set of tyres (maybe one or two are good but I can't remember). The spare is present but has slow puncture, I think it just needs refitting.

After that, you may or may not want to:
do the anti sink sphere (all others are new)
sort the surface rust on the lower section of the rear wheel arches
sort the rust on the boot lid (bottom lip - only visible when boot lid open)
The underside of the car is sound but does have surface rust which personally I would treat this side of winter.

Have a look in the for sale wanted section for a topic about strut tops wanted - there's a picture of the strut tops on Battlescar.

oh yess, the boot lock, passenger door lock are fubar, the glove box lock doesn't work and niether does the engine bay alarm switch. There is also no plip! Just one key to open the drivers door and for the ignition.

John, aka ExclusiveXM made a good offer for a replacement set of locks and working plip/receiver unti, but I didn't get that far

edit: XM Exclusive, not ExclusiveXM - sorry

/\ glove box lock, as in key lock. The actual glovebox and latch work fine.

I'd love to think she battles on. She's a bit of a legend really. Like I say she has a bit of a death wish at times, but a real trooper. Perhaps Boudica would be a good name for her.

I hope she can live on, anyway, I musn't get sentimental!

She will retire to my drive way today, hopefully awaiting a doting owner. Meanwhile, I move on. I have borrowed some money and hope that this will do me and my family justice. Due to collect tomorrow.

I have taken the advive of Sir Paul of Angelsey-shire from a thread on FCF and opted for a 2.0 HDi 110 BHP 8v in the guise of a C5 estate. FSH with one owner. I've knocked him down a touch and I think there's room for a bit more as according to the MOT records show the front discs are low.
