For sale. s1.5 xm 2.1 turboD hatch.

Selling off one (or bits :o) of your XM collection, or perhaps searching for those elusive headlight washer covers? This is the place to do it.

For sale. s1.5 xm 2.1 turboD hatch.

Post by simonxm21 » Sat Jul 23, 2011 4:29 pm

Hi all,
i've decided to sell my xm as i don't want it anymore, it's proving to be more of a project than i can handle and be bothered with!

Good points. it has done 204.000miles.
taxed until august 2011 mot until march 2012, some history, has had cambelt and water pump plus head work including new injectors valves and so on, has a new battery, 4 new spheres, 4 decent pirelli p6000 tyres, new drive shaft and drop links, two new handbrake cables a month ago.

Bad points.
rust,
small LHM leak,
oil leak from back of the engine,
clutch slipping,
sunroof,
rear off side passenger window doesn't work,
boot leaks,
rattle/knock from drivers side front not sure what this is only occurs.

I think that covers it. i'm looking for offers around £400 ono, i paid £1500 for it which now i know was too much!!!

thanks.

Don't give up Simon,

Where will you get another good one from.

Take a break from the car, drive a VAG group product, and you will go back to your Xm with open arms!!

o.k it has a rust hole in the offside rear chassis leg just behind the tyre, it has rust in the inner wings when you lift the bonnet you look above the strut tops near the scuttle panel there is a i suppose chassis caps? well there it's rusting under them! the sill are crusty, all under the boot floor..........crusty! the rear arches have freckles!

robert, my second car is a volvo 940 turbo! and it's fantastic!

hope this helps!

The 940 is a nice car and the turbo will have a mighty thirst compared to the Xm TD!

Have you thought of using the Xm as a teach your self to weld exercise? I learnt to weld on my first BX estate.

Good luck with the sale.

unfortunately i don'y have the space or a garage to weld! fundamentally it's a o.k car, but as time has gone on it's becoming apparent it'll need more attention than i'm prepared to give!

my 940 is very nice no rust no drama's when i want to use it, you right it's not all that economical around town in particular but get it out on a run and it'll easily do 34mpg.

thanks.

just wanted to add i'm gutted that i'm having to sell my xm and haven't taken it likely as it was the car of my dreams (don't laugh) but it hasn't been the experience i was expecting, my mechanic has badly let me down for the first time in 13yrs! i was told it was all sorted and i wouldn't need to do anything to it blah blah. and what get's me the most is i paid £1500 for it.

I can vouch for Simon's Volvo - a lovely car in wonderful condition! It's great you've decided to keep your XM, but don't expect the rust to just stop, you need to get it sorted if you can, maybe just one bit at a time.
I rekon it is worth perservering, but you'd need to think long haul mate. Good luck :P

S1's apprear to be worth preserving... you should see how much I need to do, well, I am dooing to my S1 2.1 SED, on a 1991 H plate... most would of given up easyilly, or even not started... but not me...

Both my cills rotton through, rear subframe rather flaky, but after more crawling under the rear, theres a nice big hole off the side of the rear subframe mounting point..... even more work.

As for the engine, thats a different story, after the head gasket job, she seems nice and strong there...
